N12 Spider - project available.

N12 'Spider' known elsewhere on these forums, is in need of more care and attention than we now have time for. Main problem - rot in the floor panels - means the bottom plank probably needs replacing. Last summer we patched a section that had gone very soft, and repainted the hull. However, further ...

Finn available.

Im am moving from the Finn to a Solo, as there are several other solos sailing at my club. So, my Finn is available. It is working, but needs work: The cockpit to floor joint at the self bailers leaks - the tank gains about 1Pt water per hour sailing. The deck to hull joint needs re-gluing in two pl...

Re: My old Solo

The unofficial Solo class register, shows that it is being sailed by Hayes, Pat at Burghfield Sailing Club. But I can not vouch for the reliability of the list. (It can be accessed from their website). I've been looking at it as I am contemplating getting one..

Re: Bowmoor Rally

Wanting to come, with N12 'Spider' and BM 'Pisces' or Finn 468 but - worrying about the weather with gusts up to 48 mph on Saturday - if the forecast does not change will not come :-(

Re: Proposal for AGM

This all sounds very reasonable to me. Might I suggest something other than the 1970 date? A lot of boats of the early 70's in classes like the N12 are I think are generally considered to be Classic? China Dolls, Spider and etc. And in the Finns, Nessa's and mine Taylors, double bottomed GRP might p...

Anyone fancy a bit on the side?

Our contender, 'A Bit on the Side' is for sail. A composition contender, with several good sails, and a well set up rig. Ready to go as she is, but would benefit from some work soon (pro-grip and some varnishing). Selling as Matthew only plays Rugby now, and living in London not easy to get to a sai...

Re: Fitting New Gunwhale for GRP Heron

I don't immediately get why a heron would have plastic or rubber strips like these on at all? Would they not be D section, wood? This one, which is perhaps the same type, seems to have what I would expect... https://tudorsc.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/heron1.jpg and Wood would also I think look much...

Re: 11+ GRP

Burrett, 1974, page 194, lists the 'Plus' dinghy, which is 'a very successful double chine dinghy in GRP and bermudan sloop rig. Plus used to be known as 11 Plus...... The sail insignia for the 'Plus' given as 'PLUS'

Re: Pegasus repair

I'm not at all sure how high a quality those GRP hulls were made too.. I do recall 194 had all sorts of different thicknesses of lay up in the floor when I had to repair a split in a particularly thin bit.

Re: Classic Finn views

I was planning to go to Oxford - but sadly I began a (non sailing related) project and that clashed. I would definitely be prioritising a Classic Finn event in 2019, but it would need to be, ideally, reasonably near, and would have to not clash with the Comet Trio Calendar, and not clash with my ong...

A rare beast - an Alpha!

on Ebay, spotted 24h July. This one has a Heron's rig - it should, basically, have the same rig as a Firefly (rotating mast). If anyone takes her on - be aware that the boat was made of a GRP - foam - GRP sandwich and the foam is NOT waterproof - indeed it is very hydroscopic and soaks fast. The one...
