Re: It says it's a moth.....

Excellent, Mike, thanks for the update. I did sail Robin Kemp's Flying Moth at Medley S.C., and loved it, I had a British Moth, built and owned by Teddy Hicks, who was our maths teacher at the Dragon School in Oxford, which Robin and I attended....and were encouraged and inspired by Ted's enthusiasm...

Re: Leader?

Yes, definately a Leader. I have one I bought here in Seattle 3 years ago and restored; it is no 85 and was built by Small Craft of Southhampton in 1964. Still have the original Lucas sails... It's a good boat for taking my wife out in, we cruise around the bay with a couple of beers and a big of ch...

Re: It says it's a moth.....

OK, here's the scoop: I wrote to my old friend Robin Kemp and this is his reply: Re: Flying Moth (from Mike Scott) Hi Mike Definately a Flying Moth ! As you say the emblem on the sail was FM in a circle. They were built on Southampton Water next to Netley Abbey . I can remember going down there to p...

Re: Origin of the West Kirby Marine Lake

Rod I believe the marine lakes were built, as stated , to promote salt water bathing; with the advent of the train, seaside holidays became all the rage, the fresh air sea breezes and salt water an invigorating and exhiliarating change from the 'dark Satanic Mills' smokestacks and smog of the indust...

Re: Dinghy Sailors Pocket Book 1961 by Robert Steavenson

Thanks, Jim, I'd like to add that to my collection. BTW it was Robin Steavenson, of National 12 and Int. 14 fame, not Robert, sure that was just a typo on your part! Did you see my post on the IC forum - that I have a copy of a series of IC films that I acquired when I bought my IC last year. It was...

Small Craft of Southampton

Can anyone fill me in on the history of Small Craft...? What year did they start.....by whom.....and when they finished.....I have a Leader #84, built by them in 1965, exported some time to the USA, still in great condition with original Jeckells sails.

Thanks

Re: Jack Holt Panda-maran 13 ft kit cat

Thanks for your help; seems most of the parts are there, so I'm just going ahead and figuring it out as I go. Will post pics in due course. It's been like solving a Sherlock Holmes mystery and a lot of fun. Luckily I have a big warm workshop and no other immediate projects, so looking forward to the...

Jack Holt Panda-maran 13 ft kit cat

Hi Does anyone have any info on this class; designed in the 70's as a fund-raiser for the WWF (the sail insignia is the WWF Panda). I have just acquired one and need a construction manual to complete the build. Its been stored for years apparently and the sails are crisp and shiny! Sail no 174. Has ...

Re: A Smart built NSM on ebay

Shame, it needs a lot of work; a few years ago I bought a damaged Fireball for 15 quid; it would have been repairable, but I didn't have a workshop at the time, so I stipped off all the fittings, sold the mast, sails, spinnaker pole, boom, rudder and centreboard on ebay for a sum total of around 800...

It's a beauty, can't understand why no-one's bid higher - would definately buy it if there was a cheap way to get it to the USA...........
