Re: varnish over epoxy issues

So I ran some tests on the inside of the boat, I washed her twice with soapy water and rinsed well, then did some tests of unthinned to 50% with white spirit and did the same with a batch with some terebene driers in. The terebene set dried in 12-24 hours, the others about 48hours. so I think the wa...

varnish over epoxy issues

OK, so on my cedar strip canoe I aplied the first coat of varnish over the epoxy on Tuesday evening and it's still tacky 3 days later. I used west system with fast hardener as it is an unheated area I'm working in - not great humidity levels either, ephifanes varnish about 5% thinned with white spir...

Re: small spinnaker wanted to use for canoe sailing

Yes an old oppy rig could be modified for a solo sail which I may try on the canoeI'm making. Need a spinny for a rafter canoe rig, generally I can think of plenty of uses for old sails!
Thanks everyone

Re: small spinnaker wanted to use for canoe sailing

sounds promising Tony,

A Merlin Kite is probably too big, but I could always reshape and size to get something that would work with the A frame mast we construct over rafted Canoes!

Are you going to Staunton Harold?

small spinnaker wanted to use for canoe sailing

Hi all, Haven't had the ToY out too much lately, lots going on up here in north wales. Wondering if anyone has an old spinnaker (symmetric) available that I can turn into a canoe sail for rafted canoes. something small, about 4m2, perhaps from a mirror or cadet. almost any state considered as I can ...

Re: Which sewing machine for cover repairs and more?

On the tall ship we had a huge industrial singer, that could cope with very thick canvas in many layers, but also a small sailrite that seemed pretty good. I have a Jones that seems tough, this weeks job is to make a boat cover. I would avoid anything new and electronic, having got the old Jones out...

Re: Looking for a TOY

Added thought,

you can confirm the number on the hull. It has been indented on the starboard side of the transom just under the lip.

Re: Looking for a TOY

I've worked hard and gathered a little information, the bit on the dinghy database came from me after emailing Tony Allen for his story. Are you planning to come and race at some of the events this year?

Re: Looking for a TOY

I have ToY 76, that I've patched up and sailed last year at most of the CVRDA events.
Another guy has just bought a ToY looking to come to future events, so we should have some good competition.

I've looking forward to this years events, and really testing how leak proof I've made her!
