Re: cutting out plywood decks

Re: cutting out plywood decks
Try using a jigsaw with a hacksaw blade in it. Slower and much more controllable. Tidy finish on ply Alternatively you can get downward cutting blades for those of us who are so spatially inept that we don't understand upside down shapes. the cutting is fine ,im using a jigsaw with a hacksaw blade ...

Re: cutting out plywood decks
first deck cut out and ready to go on , not the best fit , took ages to mark it out and still got it slightly wrong , getting a good line with a jigsaw is not easy considering ive never used one before, anyway , up close its not great , but at a distance on a rainy day will pass.

Re: cutting out plywood decks
P.S which poses another question ive still been pondering ,seat and secure the decks with wood glue or epoxy , im 60/40 in favour of epoxy . However taking a deck off if a repair is needed id imagine could be troublesome if it is done with epoxy.

Re: cutting out plywood decks
It's easier than you think - providing you are renewing the outer gunwhales you only need the centre foredeck join and the small join on the side decks to be precise. Try and use the factory edge of the ply sheet for the foredeck join. Plane a slight undercut angle down its length so with the curve...

Re: miracle restoration
open wide sir, just a small cavity to fill
dab of glue to seal the wood on the inside , access by screwdriver only.
the rest filled with marine epoxy, sanded flush and then small glass and epoxy patch to cover.
come back next week for more episodes in the D.I.Y boat dentist.

Re: miracle rubbing strip
I normally use sapele on miracle gunwhales. Mind you mainly because the timber yard across the road from my workshop lets me dig through their offcut pile and there is usually a few bits the right size there. It also does the job well which is a bonus. opted for sapele , should be fitted next week ...

I'm off out sailing today but will hunt them out later or tomorrow and let you know what I've got. I can't promise anything but how many do you need? I think I have some with fairleads and some without I will get onto it and let you know. Edit to add, I have three the same as the ones in your pictu...
