Re: Thingummyjig

Was looking at the GNAV idea as I'm a lankster and cleaning up the area under the boom appeals.

Are there disadvantages to the GNAV over a vang or kicker cascade, i guess the c.o.g is raised, otherwise?

Thanks

Dave

Very Good Rupert..... I've no intention of removing the rear tanks, that's why I asked if it was ok to put bags inside? I think the white hatch covers are a later addition, hence the shavings, shown in a couple of the gallery pics? http://s1323.photobucket.com/user/bikesportcentral/library/National%...

Re: Frank Sherwin Dinghy Racing Print

Just looked 152 up on the N12 Boat register - "Nina" - 1936 - Clinker, but the design is not listed, I wonder how accurate the painting is? Can anyone ID the design? Quite a few designs were out by 1936?

Thanks

Stock image library with some 50's/60's Dinghy content

Hi all, Was busy researching Robin Smith, previous owner of N12 N2707, apparently he crewed with Mike Evans at some times? Anyway, I got a google hit on this stock photo library with some vintage, dinghy and sailing content: (Scroll down to 2nd half of webpage for sailing pics....) http://www.diomed...

Re: Frank Sherwin Dinghy Racing Print

Hi, that's quite similar.

There's a village in the foreground on the right hand side of the painting, does that match?

What about the boats? Are the N' boats national 12's? and the blue sail an Enterprise?

Thanks

Re: National 12's of the 60's and 70's - Knowledge Please?

Hi all thanks again for the interest. Turns out it belonged to a Mr Robin Smith, a British Airways Pilot in the 70's, sailed at Staines Sailing Club. Trying to establish if he actually built it himself, seems well finished. No doubt a clever guy but busy too. The rear tank is like a writing desk my ...

Frank Sherwin Dinghy Racing Print

Hi all. Was given a print of a dinghy racing painting by Frank Sherwin. Thought I would share it and ask for info. I googled him and his work but couldn't find this image. (Sorry about the low contrast and reflections from the glass) Frank Sherwin Dinghy Race sml.jpg Close up: FSDR Close up sml.jpg ...

Re: National 12's of the 60's and 70's - Knowledge Please?

Um, yes I did.......... Guy has agreed to let it stay in the barn until I have done the two weekends of training that I spoke about in my other post and then said he will help me get her on the water, see what leaks and how bad the ropes and hardware are. Make a shopping list and go from there? Plan...

Re: Introduction and vintage International 14 query.

They are also just a stretched 14. Uffa said he stuck some longer ends on his basic 14 shape. They have a 14 rig. He even cartopped the original one, putting the keel in the boot of his car. Had not heard that before but sounds typical of the man, what a legend! I feel the need to confess......I er...

National 12's of the 60's and 70's - Knowledge Please?

Hi all, Second thread here after the wonderful response to my I18 and Intro post. Yesterday I had that "barn find" moment. It was GOOD. Was told of a boat that might be available, went to see, Was shown this: http://i1323.photobucket.com/albums/u599/bikesportcentral/National%2012%20N2707%2...

Re: Introduction and vintage International 14 query.

Guys, Thanks: Thanks again for trying to encourage me, it's classics all the way for me. But not this one.......... I seem to have joined "The University of Dinghies" here and can't think of a forum I've used that has provided so much knowledge and advice, quite so swiftly and in a pleasan...

Re: Introduction and vintage International 14 query.

Well I have been turning this over in my head for a week now.... Sounds like this is the wrong boat, plain and simple? Heart says "Yes, yes, yes, go for it it's a proper keeper, heirloom project". Head says "Don't be daft, start with something less important, less complex and a lot ea...

Re: Introduction and vintage International 14 query.

Then I do a little digging and found this in the CVRDA archives! See for sale section page 3 http://www.cvrda.org/classes/i14/tittle2.pdf So my guess is the E. Webster was the brother who had passed, John being Martins Dad, Martin being the vendor now. Hmm so 2 boats owned by E.Webster at some time?

Re: Introduction and vintage International 14 query.

Hello everyone, Thanks very much for the really great response to my posting. I have read and re-read all the replies, I've searched the forum and read everything I can find about vintage I14's, all I can say is that I do feel the responsibility. I am certainly under no illusions that I'm just going...
