Re: 1962 what was the most popular dinghy
Rory, The GP and Ent made sense. Before Jack Holt made dinghy sailing affordable it was a matter of buying a 12, Firefly or a 14, the latter being very expensive. I knew two of the directors of Bell Woodworking in the 70s (I was actually at Bells one Saturday morning as a very young kid spending my ...

Out of interest, I wonder what the answer to your question would be for 50 years later (2012). My answe...

Looks suspiciously like a Flying Somethingorother.
Bet you will have a lot of fun sailing her but probably not a classic.
Anything that has sails and floats is a cracking idea.
Enjoy

My word. What a beautiful Vintage 12. Fabulous.
Hope you have plenty of fun sailing her, she's still a beauty.

Re: My new i14
New here and just browsing a few threads. This 14 is a Hutchinson design. Sailed by Charles Stanley and I think John Hodgart (Hodgy). There were 3 Hutchinsons built.....1255, 1296 (a bright pink boat) and a yellow one for Roddy Bridge. Charles Stanley later won the Worlds with Mo Gray (1997 I think ...

Re: 470 541
New here and just browsing a few threads.
470 541 would have been built in 1981.
A well known National 12 champion had 540 (a Nautivela) new in late 1981. I remember sailing it at Calshot winter 81/82.
