The Great Escape.Steve McQueen's jump.

It's Christmas time! Great programme last night on Chanel 4 at @ midnight  put on to replace the programme about murderers ( which I presume was pulled on account of current political sensitivities about bias.) Well OK its not sailing but I know you are an eclectic lot and its far to wet to b...

Re: 'Salty' ply

I always was given to understand that salt is good as it inhibits rot. True it can cause pesistent damp (due to osmosis) but it is still salty damp. Keep it in mind that Ronseal and other garden rot prevention (Not creosote!) :!: is basically a combination of different salts and if you have really s...

Re: A bit on the wild side

Hi Michael, Pictures please. Definately worth a good restoration as well. A genuine antique radio controlled or original self tacking yacht pushed about with a pole in good nick can go for £2-3 hundred or more. Left to deteriorate in the attic it runs the risk of avoiding the skip at the nex...

Re: Vintage Finn

Hi fellow enthusiasts I’m relieved to report that the Finn has escaped the scrapyard someone from Ireland has given it a home happy days. Best regards to all Derek. (Who is Lizzie Borden) Lizzie Borden took an Axe, And gave her mother forty wacks. When she saw what she had done She gave her father ...

Re: Vintage Finn

Tempting but a fair bit of driving and a ferry (Cheapest £224 return) but it is free to a good home and it has a functional wooden mast :)

Unfortunately if I bought this I would have to call it "Lizzie Borden."

A bit on the wild side

A whim made me type "classic Sheawater" into ebay and came up with this. The local sailing club (Stokes Bay) used to sail them and as I have been laid up this past 3 months with a gardening injury (Prolapsed Disc) I am getting rather board and this reminded me of being given various Airfix...

Re: Falling Attendance at CVRDA Rallys

Perhaps I am not the best to comment as I have not attended a CVRDA meeting for a long time but my feeling is that like Oscar Wilde, the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about. When I was Captain of Boats at a minor college boat club, I would deliberately enter Regattas w...

Re: One Design from Cornwall??

Looks like many 14ft clinkers and is quite possibly a "One off" built to a National Restricted formula. These had 2 knees for the Middle thwart, a minimum keel depth of 1 inch and a mast tabernacle supported by the front thwart and were undecked. (Amongst other features.) (I have the formu...

Re: Calling Firefly Experts

Regarding your centerplate etc... The Firefly was originally designed with a mild Steel 8mm plate (As you have noted.) There was some debate at the original Olympic event about how to minimise rust accumulating on the surface and how much it would affect speed. Nobody is in any doubt that these &quo...
