Re: Swallows and Amazons.

Hopefully a photo or an actual boat will emerge! Probably looked a bit like a small Bosun in grp?

Re: 11+ GRP

Michael - nice looking hull, but presume that’s all there is. Different mast mounting to mine. My mast bottom has the original type which screw adjusts , and has a Male protrusion that swivels in the female fitting on the foredeck. Can’t quite read the hull number if that’s what I’m seeing on the tr...

Re: 11+ GRP

Maybe start a separate thread on that if you want to generate a reply? Think your post will get lost in a thread about 11+ and more especially the fabled grp 11+!

Re: Swallows and Amazons.

Interesting Jim. Any actual evidence to support this? I have no recollection of seeing any such dinghy at Earls Court shows. Nor featuring in SmallBoat magazine. Why or how anybody would randomly make one or two offs I’m not sure? Even Gulls in grp were initially pretty rare and not really a great s...

Re: Swallows and Amazons.

I really suspect there were no grp ones. But who knows. I’ve got my very early current unnumbered one, I’ve owned beautiful 429 which I bought from the original constructors son, and the highest number I’ve seen photographically is 556. I see none entered into Septembers Barts Bash charity race. So ...

Re: 11+ on Ebay

Will do. In Heron circles, it was the Association I believe who allocated sail/hull numbers. I presume the 11+ sold in too few a numbers to warrant an Association, so perhaps numbers were allocated by the Harlow factory? Anyhow, with no sails, and with no hull number I can find on her, I’m not quite...

Love both films, though still prefer the original with the lovely Virginia Mckenna

Re: Early Graduate - free to collector

I just love it when such early original dinghies come up. If these were classic cars of the same era they’d be worth a fortune. Early classic dinghy sailing has to be the cheapest hobby on the planet. Good luck in finding a buyer who will love it.

Re: 11+ afloat

She looks great Michael. If there’s anything you want measuring etc. from my 11+ do just say. Mine came with a rudder but not a tiller, so again, a spare Heron tiller has been suitably modified for now. A woodworking genius of a friend will make a proper one if sometime I can get hold of plans/dimen...

Re: 11+ on Ebay

Yes I have a couple of Herons, one wood, one grp, and love them both, but the 11+ is the one I’d keep if push came to shove! I have an original wonderful set of cotton sails which look so good, sail so silently, and even smell so nice, on either wooden boats. Although I do enter Heron Association ra...

Re: 11+ on Ebay

Batts came back to me very quickly- they loved the boat by way of the photo I sent them. Thanks for the suggestion- he’thinks he has plans! Will come back to me with price.
I enjoyed reading the link you sent. Yours looks great. I wonder how many now exist!

Re: 11+ on Ebay

Thanks. Yes it’s a bit hard in one sense to spend any money on her as she only came for £50 and a bit of Owatrol D1 satin varnish! On the other hand she’s gorgeous and I’d like to her right regardless of cost! The cotton Heron sails I have look great on the 11+, and have no insignia or numbers on. I...
