National 12 2383 - Starfish Design
Hello all, Long time no see. I am putting my National 12 up for sale. I have owned this boat for 10 years or so and in that time I have loved sailing her. She is lively and will plane in the right conditions. However, my crew/s now have better things to do than sail with their dad, and we weren't mu...

Re: Heat damage to old marine ply?
I had a similar thing with my N12 sparkle. Unfortunately I was forced to re-deck the for-deck, which also mean new gunnels, etc.
The comes a point when I could not bear to look at it. I think the wood finally calls time on being bent and twisted. mine was the original deck from 1967.

How about a vintage Heron?
Gunter rigged.
I used to have one , to which I fitted a Cadet Spinnaker.
Or a Miracle, even.?
Sorry I currently have neither.

In another world, it would probably go very well with my Starfish N12. But alas, now is not the time.

Re: Flying Fish????
I was rather taken with the International 12 after recently seeing pictures of one, and coming to the realisation that if my sailing is going to continue I would probably need a single hander that can take a passenger, as opposed to a crew. But they seem to be thin on the ground and expensive. I.e. ...

Re: Cadet/General Bouyancy question
You are right to be concerned, as it will sit higher in the water and be more likely to turtle, which will make recovery all the more difficult. Compound that with the fact that the Cadet is not really fast enough for a self bailer to work, unless empty, i.e. when you do not need it. People have oft...

Re: Ian Proctor
There is a letter on the Merlin website from Ina Proctor, where he describes some of his Merlin designs, if I recall.
But you probably know that already.

Re: Blue sky thinking or Dark and Stormy days ahead?
I wouldn't buy an N12 after 1970, so there is no chance you'd get me buying a foiling dinghy. The moment builders started removing thwarts and other crew seating, that's my interest in the class gone. That is the trouble with the classes where a boat is being fine-tuned to win a particular race at a...

Re: Yachting Monthly Junior?
Reminds me of a Heron, except for the low boom, and the fact that a Heron is 11' 3" if I recall. Cadet fleet was probably too well established for the boat to threaten...... As an ex 'Cadet parent' I used to take a lot of prospective crews and sail in a Heron within the Cadet fleet at my old cl...

Google 'temporary garage'

I would be tempted, if I had the space.
