Vintage Int 14 for sale
I am looking to pass on my 1937 Uffa Fox 14 K380. I tried this last year albeit without success. Anyhow space requirements and "lifestyle" issues mean she must now go. She is in generally excellent condition (see https://goo.gl/photos/kMwCEZ8PQ11ksuaN6) but requires some work on the starbo...

Vintage 14 for sale
With some regret I have decided to sell my 1937 Uffa Fox 14 K380. Following a recent back operation it is clear I am never going to sail her, I am not one for keeping museum pieces and frankly I need the space for other things. She is in generally excellent condition (see https://goo.gl/photos/kMwCE...

Re: Professional restorers
Thanks for your comments. I certainly take on board comments about the cost of professional work (been there before!) but I think she is worth it, perhaps not in residual value terms but as an affair of the heart! Getting her sailing again is on my bucket list while the flesh is still just about wil...

Professional restorers
I am looking for a professional for some advice and work on my vintage 14. I am loathe to do this myself as it lies beyond my skills and I don't think this is the boat to experiment on! Any recommendations? I am based on the Welsh borders (near Hay) so ideally Midlands or South.
Re: quiz time
You seem to be talking about Robin Steavenson and based on a rather bleary picture on Amazon I think the the answer to question 1 is the cover of Marks to Starboard. I haven't a clue on 2 (your clue about Manchester going thirsty made me think of Boddingtons!). 3 again a complete blank - per Tom Vau...

Re: Introductions
Having benefited from some good advice on the forum over the years and made the occasional post, including a for sale advert today, I thought perhaps I should introduce myself. I am Robert and currently based in the Welsh borders near Builth Wells. I learnt to sail about 100 years ago in a Heron on ...

Classic Fairey International 14
With some regret I am looking to dispose of my 1957 Fairey International 14 K680. When I bought her my aim was to restore her with a view to participating in the Classic 14 events however unfortunately a back injury a year or so ago put paid to future dinghy sailing and the time has come to pass her...

Re: creative varnishing
Interesting. I have a similar problem with my Uffa Fox 14 (I think it inevitable in these boats where the old membrane has disintegrated). Total immersion slows it to a controllable level but I am tempted to try the Owatrol Deks Olje D1 treatment you suggest for a more permanent solution. I had neve...

Re: creative buoyancy
Hi Chris On my 1937 14 the side tanks and bow tank are "sealed" by small fillets of wood spanning each set of ribs with drainage through small screw thread bronze caps. I attach a photo in which you can just make out the details. I say sealed but the reality on a boat of this age is that w...

Re: Splitting a GRP Hull.
I am curious to know why you want to split it in the first place. If it is to repair a hole in the hull then there are other less drastic ways.

Re: Buss and Elston info please
Interesting albeit perhaps a bit off thread. I suspect it is right to credit De Havilland in the UK with the initial technology albeit by the time of the war De Havilland in Canada had adopted it and indeed built over of over 1000 of the Mosquitos. In terms of hot moulded boats I believe the US prob...

Re: a bygone age
Nice film - it is a pity that it is indeed a bygone age. Traditionally Max displacement yachts such as in the film were restricted by wave drag to a speed in knots of around 1 - 1.4 times the square root of the waterline length in feet. It follows, as others have said, that it paid to maximise water...

Re: ****John Oakley - Winning**************
It wasn't me but that said I have a copy of Winning that I would be happy to let you (or any other active CVRDA member) have if you give me your address and pop a few bob into the MacMillan nurses collection box when you next pass one. Old age and a back injury have forced me to face up to the fact ...
