Plywood decks
I have just started renovation of a 1956 Fairey Finn, that was finished by Woottons on the IoW. The plywood decks are wonderful and have a tiger stripe throughout. I am eager to retain these decks but need to conduct some repairs. Can anyone help me and identify the plywood veneer that has been used...

Finn K19 Elfin
Does anyone know who bought K19 Elfin on EBay this week. I am just about to start a refurbishment of K17 Allegretta and it would be good to have someone to discuss dealing with similar problems. Both boats are Fairey Finns so the problems will not necessarily be in the hull!!

Re: Finn Wooden Mast Rigging
Donnie, do you know what make the mast is? Does the boom fit into a hole through the mast? If so it may have been set up for a wedge which is used to wedge the boom up or down. Peter also mentioned a drum. Some Boats had a drum on the boom with a wire to the mast. The bang is put on by tightening th...

Re: Oval Aluminium Finn Mast
Andy, if your mast is still available I would be pleased to use her on my newly acquired Fairey Finn K17.
I will try and PM you if I can sort it out.

Free to a good home or anyone who can use them. Most of the blocks and cleats are form the late 1950's.

Re: Wanted dinghy trolley.
Steve, I have a dinghy trolley and a combination trailer suitable for a 15-18 foot boat. It has previously been used on a Wayfarer, but needs new chicks on the trolley. Otherwise in perfect working order. I would like £60.00 for the whole lot, so I can buy two cans of varnish for the Finn decks. PM ...

Re: Finn buoyancy
I struggled to sort out bow buoyancy for my first rejuvenation project. There is not sufficient room to fit a buoyancy bag that would be effective in the event of a capsize. I managed to fit a buoyancy tank in front of the mast on my Fairey. Although not a massive tank it provided enough buoyancy to...

Re: Old Elvstrom bailers
Brilliant, Bill thank you. I have managed to get the moving part of the bailer our of the fixing, so I did not need to unseat the entire bailer. I did manage to get the old gasket out in one piece, and yes it is about 5mm. I will try neoprene but I do not think it is quite stiff or hard enough. I to...

Old Elvstrom bailers
Has anyone any ideas for replacing the rubber gasket located in between the upper and lower casings of an old Elvstrom bailer. The internet provides advice on how to remove the internal rubber gasket on a modern bailer, but my bailers are late 50's or 60's, however, a similar process naturally falls...

Re: Glass fibre deck repair
Phil, the thin hairline cracks are a feature of many race build Finns. Even the modern boats are prone to picking up these starred cracks and they are impossible to do anything with except overpaint. However, because they are caused by the flexing of the very thin deck and substructure they will onl...

Re: Finn boom and rudder wanted
I have a lifting Finn rudder with tiller. Send me a PM with your contact details and I can send a picture or two. The rudder stock does not have standard pintles on it but what is has are sound. Would like £100.00 for it all.

Re: Re decking a 1957 Finn
Thank you all, some sound advice there. The tip about cutting using a sharpe knife is helpful also ensuring there is an undercut to hold extra glue. I will let you know how it goes and try and post some pictures, but you will have to wait till late March, when I hope to be at home long enough to get...

Re: Re decking a 1957 Finn
Thank you both, I am not worried about the decks being lightweight, I have no intention of standing on the deck, - it might ruin the varnish! I am pleased to hear the butt joint will suffice, but what is the best tool/saw to use to ensure the cut is straight true and will line up? This is my biggest...

Re decking a 1957 Finn
Any tips much appreciated. I am just about to put the new 3mm ply deck on my Finn, but I seek help and advice from those who have done it before. I intend to put the sheets of ply on the crossmembers with each sheet covering about a quarter of the deck. My intention is to glue the sheets to the cros...
