Is this actually happening? I would have expect NOR and hopefully SI to be published by now if the event is going ahead.

Re: Gp14 row locks
The long part of rowlocks the stalk has a small hole in end. Is that for a retaining pin do u think. I've tried uploading pics from eBay. But it's saying files too large. So it's bit awkward to explain No, the hole is for attaching a thin lanyard so that you don't lose the rowlock overboard (very r...

Re: Gp14 row locks
Hopefully your rowlocks are metal (they're usually galvanised steel) otherwise they'll probably snap at the least convenient time. You'll need a pair of suitably-sized rowlock sockets [1]. Normally these are mounted on the side with a through hole drilled to allow the rowlock to seat properly. You'l...

Re: What dinghy?
I always hear about the gull being really seaworthy and stable so much so it's made me want to add to my fleet. Bringing it to two! Maybe gull would suit op Stability is relative. Coming from a GP14 you'd find a Gull a bit tippy. Having two boats isn't going to make you a better sailor but that's y...

Re: What dinghy?
Hello I'm new to this and won't pretend to be otherwise,. I went for gp14 because all reviews pointed to stability and good general boat,. I also heard very good things about gulls wayfarers and wanderers,. What makes enterprises so unstable? As said new to this! GP14s are very good boats but the O...

Re: What dinghy?
The problem with Herons is finding one. There aren't many for sale [1] ATM there seems to be one on Apollo Duck and one on Ebay. I'd say the Ebay one would be the better buy (assuming your budget can stretch that high) as it's got a combi trailer whereas the Apollo Duck one only has a launching trol...

It would be a shame to see the forum go but I flatly refuse to use Facebook. I will not surrender my private life to enrich an evil Yankee billionaire regardless of the consequences.

Re: Smaller sails for a GP14
Pretty well anything will work for a mainsail. For a jib you'll need something which sheets well(ish) and I think a Heron jib would be extremely low in the clew on a GP14 unless you're happy to put a set of fairleads well forward to sheet it from.

Re: Fitting New Gunwhale for GRP Heron
I totally agree with jpa_wfsc. The original gunwhales would have been wood and I can't think of any reason to use anything else as a replacement.

Re: 11+ on Ebay
I’d like new sails to be more terylene like than modern Dacron. You'll struggle to find anything that bad these days. On my Heron I use a 3.9oz cloth by Bainbridge. It's a lot easier handling than the super-stiff cloths by Contender or Dimension Polyant which dominate woven racing dinghy cloths. Ch...
