Re: Hunts in June

Sorry to hear that, Nessa, but thanks for letting me know. Interestingly, the Fifteen only draws 2'6", whereas the Albacore draws 4'. They also have an active Fifteen fleet at Broxbourne, not a lake you would normally think of as big enough for a Fifteen, but it gives great racing and places a ...

Re: Hunts in June

Thanks to Suffolk Merlin and Alan Williams for their offers. Unfortunately I won't be able to make either as 16-17th June is the Fifteen Classic Nationals at Llangorse and the Roadford date clashes with the Fifteen Northern Travellers at Bassenthwaite. At the moment I have marked Hunts, Hykeham, Ban...

Re: Hunts in June

I'm interested in coming. Can you launch a Fifteen?

What time does the fun start? I'll be coming down from North Yorkshire.

Re: For my next trick....Flying 15s!

David I have classic 15s 617 'Fettercairn' and 1155 'Squall', both built by Chippendale. 617 (registered 1963) is in full commission and we're off to Ullswater with her this weekend, as well as participating in the northern travellers series for the class, kindly sponsored by Waples Wines. 1155 (reg...

Re: Enterprise lack of pointing

Just a thought looking at all the very valid points on here - have you got the outhaul tight enough? Too slack and it will stop you dead.

Re: Any new deals for 3rd Party only dinghy insurance?

I insure my boats through Bishop Skinner Marine on a multi-boat policy. I have always found them very helpful.

All my boats are wood and comprehensively insured with no problem.

Re: flaps or self bailers - your opinions please..

Hi Tim You don't say what the problem is but I assume that by your comment on thinking about getting new bailers that the problem lies there rather than with the wood of the hull where the bailers are mounted? The good news is that you can get new inner and outer seal kits for the bailers and if the...

Re: Soft and blackened needs hardening and restoring

Just coming back on the question about grey patches from the oxalic acid.

In my case the answer is I didn't have any because I thoroughly washed the area after treatment. It is now 5 years since I varnished the boat and there are no marks where I treated the wood.

Hope this helps.

Re: Soft and blackened needs hardening and restoring

Hi Tim Can't comment on the wood hardener, but I treated the black patches on my Albacore with oxalic acid that a got from a fellow restorer in crystal form. You just put them a few at a time in a small amount of water and keep stirring and adding until they no longer dissolve. I then applied the so...

Re: Gold proctor mast for 1970's N12

Hi Gavin

You could also call Brian Herring on 01625 861006 or 07759618935. He builds and repairs N12s and is at Redesmere SC near Alderley Edge in Cheshire, so en route on your way up to Yorkshire. He has a lot of N12 stuff in his yard including masts, so may be able to help you.

Re: Firefly buoyancy

Hi I have rear bags in my Firefly. They are Crewsaver ones rated at 45kg (100lb) each, with dimensions of 890 x 280mm (35" x 11") I also have the large bow bag but no bags in the side tanks. I would say the rear bags are essential as the Firefly holds a lot of water when swamped and even w...
