Re: Down to one boat... each... plus a spare

I look forward to having a go...Are you looking to get the Spinnaker fitted?

Re: Down to one boat... each... plus a spare

Rupert,

I am quite curious with regard to the Kirby I14. However I have no idea what kind of animal it is - obviously a very different beast to the early boats. Got a picture of the cockpit?

Re: Down to one boat... each... plus a spare

I must admit, what I fancy is, effectively, a symmetrically rigged Laser 2000.

Roomy, rugged, plastic, winter knock-about training boat.

Does a beast exist?

Cheers

Re: Down to one boat... each... plus a spare

Bosun.......I always think they should have at least one canon fitted. Would not affect the weight much... Perhaps an Albacore might be the answer, as a powerful two sail boat, it would be ideal for the lake....No need to train for spinnaker work. Finding one at reasonable cost might be more tricky.

Re: Down to one boat......

Just remember I sold a Firefly this summer as it was too similar to my N12.

Cheers for the feedback on the Kestrel. Seems it might be a handful with a light crew, so it would mean I would have to find a heavier one.

Ho hum.

Re: Down to one boat......

So as I understand the Kestrel was designed by Ian Proctor in approx 1955, as a boat designed for production from the outset in fibreglass, although some early ones we made in wood. I happened to mention this to my brother and he had actually sailed one on occasion out in Cyprus, whilst in the RAF. ...

Re: Down to one boat......

Possibly too skiffy for me. There is nowhere for me to sit in it. I have to take my stomach into account as well.

Re: Down to one boat......

It is the Kestrel I was looking at. Well done Rupert.

It is bigger, but comes with some cut down sails.

Of course I have not viewed it yet.

But I am curious enough to enquire if it has a cover....

Re: Down to one boat......

Roger, I am a social sailor as well. I much prefer to sail double handed. In fact I would go as far as to say, rather than buying a single hander, I would be looking at finding a regular crew for my double hander. Its just getting them, and I, to commit to regular enough sailing to learn to sail the...

Re: Down to one boat......

She is rather amused at the possibility of having her own boat. Not that I would ever get her out to sail it without a lot of shouting and arm twisting....And I would lose my (sullen and uncooperative) crew.... And I would rather have a Solo than a Laser.........Its probably has the ideal PY for the...

Re: Down to one boat......

Actually what would probably be more useful would be to have a plastic Paper Dart N12 for the winter.

But the daughter has other ideas.

Re: Down to one boat......

I would rather have this, but my pocket would not stretch and I would have to find an adult crew to sail it, I would expect.

Re: Down to one boat......

Roger, It does look like a nice and interesting boat/class and pretty too. Alas, I am not in a position to take on serious rebuilds. Its all I can do to keep a good boat serviceable. You only have to ask Michael4 about the junk I have passed on to him  Thanks for the thought though. Steve H
