Thanks, I shall attempt to remove it complete.
What should I stick it back down with, thickened epoxy or silkaflex ?

Heron centerboard case leak
I have started work on the 1952 heron ( sail number 17) , easy jobs and a repaint/varnish mostly, but......... I took it to the club and floated it for the first time today, as I had been told to expect a leak round the CB case and wanted to check this out before doing to much work. I got 1/2" ...

Re: New (old) boat advice
Update: I have ended up with a lovely little 12' Heron from 1952 (Thanks to Pat and Sandy who saved it :D ) Plan is to make front and rear buoyancy/storage tanks with big hatches, that are easily removed from the hull with screws. She will wear a hybrid rig of original heron mast with 1964 mirror ga...

Re: Any interest in a long distance river race as a CVRDA op
Sounds great ! .
Won't the river be busy with all the narrowboats/ powerboaters on a bank holiday ?. As if the event is, where I think it is, is it not part of the Avon ring ?.

Re: New (old) boat advice
Thanks all for your replies, some good suggestions. :D I should add that this dinghy will not be raced !, just sailed/cruised/camped in and generally had fun in. A stable comfortable boat is the aim and ideally an old wooden one What is the considered wisdom of changing a wooden centerboard to a met...

New (old) boat advice
I am going to start sailing on on the tidal part of the river severn near the bridges so need something a bit bigger and heavier, add to this I have just joined the DCA and plan to start cruising in company next year. I will be sailing with my 12 year old daughter and want something that we could ge...

Re: leak in hull....
Sailed briefly at the weekend and all is now well, Flo is very pleased with it, just a bit of gellcoat to touch-up over the winter sometime.
Thanks for all the help/ideas. Cheers. J

Re: Covers for wooden boats
+1 for sail register. They have just made a cover for Flo's concept 302, very pleased with the cover and a good price too.
I would definitely use them again.

Re: leak in hull....
The air test works a treat. 10 millibar standing pressure is plenty , a garden sprayer with washing up liquid and water makes easy work of soaping the hull up. The whole spinney tube and ends have been out and resealed, the bottom of the mast tube had never been properly glued in and a poor repair t...

Re: Club 420 Date of Mfg.
Our club has recently bought 6 old 420's as club boats, I would put them as 70's boats. No transom flap, just a standard bailer in the floor. Pull on the forestay and use ply packers at base of mast ,to tension the rig. I was testing one out on the lake and the wind picked up to about 20k , it was g...

Re: leak in hull....
Thanks everyone , I had already done one end of the spinney pipe, perhaps I should do the other too if its a weak point. Drain bung fitting was one of the things I had thought of doing !, so good to see it works for the rooster guy. Have cobbled up an adaptor bung tonight, I already have a pressure ...

leak in hull....
Hi All, some time since I last needed to bother you, but I am in need of guidance again. My youngest daughter has a concept 302 (lost class), its grp and twin skinned. water is getting into the hull void, despite my best efforts I have not been successful in stopping it. It may well be a combination...

Re: Hanging boats up
I have the mirror hung up for the winter, 4x2 at each end (crossways) with a rope on each end , with galv staple plates screwed to the joists with big screws (all from screwfix). Had thought about cam buckle straps as above, good to know that they work well , will get some now to make getting it dow...
