Re: Daring dinghy
I'm sorry that there was only one person interested. You raise interesting points about value, and I agree that if it had been a car then there might have been more interest. Unfortunately value is totally subjective as shown by the amazing prices paid for certain art works, for instance "The S...

Re: Finn nationals
The combination of Tatty and Badly sailed is not always correct. Elvstrom had a deliberately Tatty Finn so he could be sure of doing well in any boat.........Inclusivity is important.

Re: Cadet/General Bouyancy question
Celotex has glass fibre reinforcement. It is really itchy and horrible. I have used loads of it.
However if it is available then if you were to wrap it in tape then it might be a good idea. Maybe cut pieces to fit into Rubble sacks and tape the whole lot up?

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection
It's a shame that all the boats sold will not be adequately recorded. Nowadays with 3D scanning techniques it would be possible to digitise all of them and then we could all buy our favorite digital representation.

Yep, I agree about the Incredibles, one of the best, great quotable moments. My wife identifies with Elastigirl.......

Re: For my next trick....Flying 15s!
I had a look at the Kirkcubbin video. There's a few pictures of Coweslip's hull going on Uffa's car roof. I always wondered how many people it took to do this. I counted quite a few, five or six people on each side, but then I suppose dropping HRH's boat wasn't really an option! The bit that wasn't ...

Re: Blue sky thinking or Dark and Stormy days ahead?
Moths were racing in Torbay a week or so ago, same as the Feva nationals. I stood on a headland about a mile away and had a good look. Fevas, closely grouped very slow at that distance, Moths buzzing around moving really fast, they reminded me of water boatmen. As our club had sent two teams to the ...

I like the idea of continuous monitoring of boats speeds and headings to get a fair handicapping. It would remove a lot of those tredious and pointless forum posts on other lesser sites.

April 2017 issue of RYA Wavelength recommends a spindle diameter of 8 times the diameter of the rope. Otherwise the breaking strength of the rope is considerably reduced. So get rid of the wire rope but you might have to make the winch spindles bigger.
