Re: Dream Classic Dinghy
Jon, I think that there really is something special about sailing a middle aged merlin - I'm not sure if the more modern 'flatties' give you the same feel both upwind and down, nor do the much older, sub 6ft wide boats (the IXb and beyond) have that lovely powerful feeling to them. I'm damn sure th...

Re: Dream Classic Dinghy
and finally......... a classic Merlin. In the absence of 3199, a Smokers delivers up an expereince that is as good a 'sail' as anything. Like the 505, the merlin does everything well and though 'out-moded' by the skiff revolution, is still a wonderful boat. D There is nothing, absoloutly nothing be...

JimC, you are spot on. If all clubs had a junior training section then all clubs would benefit.... However, not all clubs are like Hunts (or WOBYC), and so we get the drop out. Not sure on the best way to promote clubs to encourage junior training. As I will be ARO at the Tera Nationals next weekend...

Will the club be signposted at all. I seem to be so used to using satnav, that I may struggle otherwise!!

Re: 2010 confirmed locations and dates
Good point Pat, (missed that one) will get on the case... Jon As an aside, was talking with Jamie Campbell last night, if any of his collection are sailable, then they could be borrowed on a "You bend it you mend it (properly) policy"... Possibly, not the best thing for a boat wrecker like...

Re: 2010 confirmed locations and dates
Apart from the overall magazines we need promotion on each eligible class's website. Rupert will no doubt do the Fireflies, Chris and I the Merlin Rocket, Roger the Hornet and Ed/Neil/Alan the IC and Finn but anyone could get busy on some others. Make sure you get all the venue details, dates and s...

Re: Ironic dinghies
Dragon, certainly is a submarine to which the designer omitted a preiscope but the crews keep the most of it off the driver! And what else are crews for?? We may advise on tactics, but, are often ignored even when we are right (DavidH, I DON'T mean you!!). The other main job of crews is to pu...

I hate to worry you (jon..be scared...be very scared as the Tera Nationals are but a week hence) but..... In years gone by, Netley used to host the Scorpion Southerns. I was a 'new' race officer and was not aware of the rules that state that belt, braces and knotted string may not be enough to keep...

Re: 2010 confirmed locations and dates
Rupert, I must be a numbskull (No comments please  ) but Classic Boat, totally slipped off my Radar. I've always considered them a totally keelboat mag, although I do know that they do dinghy stuff. My good friend, Richard Johnstone-Bryden, writes for them, and he will be at Oulton Week, unless...

Re: Mainsheets
I have Rooster rope on the Blaze, best mainsheet I've every had. You just need to make sure that you tie the loose end of the mainsheet into the boat....
No twisting, and in freezing conditions, still warm to the touch..
