Re: Handicap tweaks
Well said AG, but in all handicaping that is slightly personal (as par the Golf handicap... Like the pun!!), then the better sailors get penalised for being good sailors. Until I wrecked the boat at Whitfriars, we were probably winning on handicap. The question must be asked, would we still have bee...

Re: Iconic dinghies
Can we keep this thread on topic. Can I remind posters that the CVRDA is a broad church, please respect others opinions and do not shout as this will earn you a visit to the naughty step. . I am suitably chastised and will say seven Hail Marys to protect my soul!! ( don't like the naughty ste...

Re: Iconic dinghies
Seems to me that, while very few dinghies have made it out to the wider world's conciousness (Avenger, maybe, at least at the time), many of the suggestions made (mine included) are of relevence, and are famous to, the class they belong to. Very few boats are well known even across the dinghy world...

Re: DSM....RIP!
It is a real shame to loose DSM just as it was getting better, and about to eclipse Y&Y in the dinghy market (If it hadn't done it already!!). I think it shows a bit of short sightedness from the DSM publisher, on this occasion. However, maybe, Y&Y will work with some of the DSM team, to giv...

Re: Iconic dinghies
AG, I did think I would leave Surf Scoter for you to mention!! In actual fact the only iconic M/R that immediatly came to mind was the boat that was Canterbury Tales, the first of, possibly, the most succesful design of recent times.. Although there was that lovely looking boat that Dick Batt had wi...

Re: Bough Beech
IF... if things go to plan and 'scrapper supercrew' is free then team Smokey Bear , MR 3025, will be at Bough Beech with the declared aim of at least finishing a race! I've been out buying in more stocks of epoxy and 6" coach bolts so that the fittings on the front half of the boat are a littl...

Re: Another odd rules question
Just re-reading this, during Oulton Week if a race is abandoned (When Anglia TV turn up to film, we always seem to get force 9-10 gales!!), the race (or day!!) is ditched, and not rescheduled. Maybe we need to write this into the SI's??? If we were only catering for modern plastic bathtubs, sailing ...
Re: Reg White
I never knowingly met Reg, but am fairly sure, I may have done at the inaugurel ISO nationals in 1993 when we got an 8th. He was a legend in sailing, and someone we all aspired to copy, but most of us are not the sailing hero's like he was... At least, he passed away sailing and enjyoing himself.......

Re: holes in hulls
If I were in your position, I would bodge the damage with epoxy, so that you may sail this year... Then during the winter, fix it properly.....

Re: transom flap seals
I must agree, and disagree with AG. Yes, it can not take long enough to fit the rudder (or rotate the rudder to the down position), unless you have a really S**T system, to ship much water.. The crews job (You knew this was coming!!), is to keep the boat level, sheet the jib, tell the helm where to ...

Re: Mirror 14/Marauder Story
Pleased to hear the cast is off. How does it feel, will you be sailing soon.. So many questions, so little time (I'm sure that;s a quote, but not too sure who to attributate it to!!)

Re: transom flap seals
We used to use Fablon on the Enterprise, and they are one of the better options. Just need to make sure that the varnish is well attached. We did kick the Fablon out once, and took a HUGE chunk of varnish off the transom, I was quite surprised that Fablon sticks better to varnish, than varnish does ...
Re: Trophies
Well, so far done two CVRDA events, and broken (different) Merlins at each event. Just hope this skill does not continue... (David H would not be happy, if I break the boat after it's extensive repair(s)). I do seem to have a knack at pulling jib sheet tracks off!! - Shame it's not mainsheet tracks!...
