Having a nice sail tomorrow

Well the weather looks good.

Warm and a 15, gusting up to 27, mph wind an Saturday.

Looks promising if I can find myself a heavy enough crew.......

Hope every has the opportunity to enjoy thier boats this weekend.

Re: the best dinghy from plans

You can still build a Heron from Plans or a kit.

A Mirror's predecessor if you like. Plans from the Heron Association.

Re: Composite Firefly rebuild

As much as I would like to consider it, I have just bought a VW camper (t25) in need of significant time and effort to bring it up together (strip out and throw away the interior). So much so, that I will struggle to convince the missus that I have work to do on the Merlin. Its a project for both of...

Re: Rethinking the Cotton Sail Challenge?

All, as the owner of MR 950, a 1959 boat which I am led to believe was never fitted with a wooden mast or cotton sails, I was a bit dubious when offered the use of a set of cotton sails for the above challenge at the Nationals. Was it right, when my boat was never fitted with them? My boat is alread...

Re: Any other Solos in CVRDA ?

We have Solo's coming out of our ears at South Cerney SC.

And we used to have No 2, up until recently.

Very popular at our sailing club.

Re: National 12 vs Firefly

Cheers Dave, There was a 1962 Starfish N12 on ebay a couple of days ago, no cover, no trailor, and an iffy launch trolley. Outwardly it looked good, having been stored undercover. I was just wondering if it was a viable alternative to a Firefly. It was going to be something to run alongside my Merli...

Re: National 12? on ebay

I was looking to bid on the second one last night. But as I have yet to sail either a Firefly or an early National 12, I eventually came to my senses and thought better of it. It also had no cover or trailor. And the launching trolley was descibed as 'rusty' and was not originally offered until I en...

Re: National 12 vs Firefly

Thanks Rupert, I think we'll be across shortly. I have another Cadet parent who is interested in having a half share in a vintage Firefly (or early N12 - but he does not know it yet) with me - and he has storge facilities for the winter  But I have sailed neither....And since my son is involve...

National 12 vs Firefly

Okay, I understand that these two classes both had their Origins from a prewar boat called the Uffa King, originally designed by Uffa Fox...Obviously. However when comparing earlier versions, how different are they to sail? If I pick a date, say 1962, as we are talking classic boats, how different a...

Re: A couple of Mirror problems

I am a great exponent of the 'Car body filler and cardboard' school, or at least one of the many previous owners of my Merlin Rocket was....... Only kidding.....However I did leave two such repairs in the front tank of the Cadet I have just redecked. It seems that they have been there for yea...

Re: CVRDA nats Clywedog August

Had a great time, even with the shakey start. Much improved weather on Monday a great relief, at least for the first race in the morning whilst there was still some wind

Warm welcome both from the club and CRDVA members most welcome.

Lovely area also.

Cheers

Re: CVRDA nats Clywedog August

Ed, which mkVIII do you have? I understand that there were not many made (circa 6?) and 950 was one of only 2 made by Chippendale, and the last of the 6 - I stand to be corrected here. When I look at pictures of her, when I have been sailing her, it always looks like I have not got her trimmed right...
