Re: Kicker.
If you cascade a 3:1 with a 4:1 you'll get 12:1 with rather better throw than your current setup. I did use a coarse/fine on my PlusPlus, but the drawback is repeatability. I used one of those triple blocks with a cleat, and had the centre block and cleat as the end of the coarse, and used the fine ...

Re: Classic pys for club racing
Its a minefield... Rupert is exactly right about there being no comparison between a 1965 Enterprise and a 2015 Enterprise. Almost every class has got faster over the decades, even ignoring rule changes. Its one reason why the Laser looks slower than it used to be. Then also there are improved techn...

Because you're well aware of the destruction that frost and ice will wreak on a boat?Michael4 wrote:Why do I bother?
I suppose there must be a way you could control the climate in your garage to an extent to minimise the excess drying out - provided that won't compromise everything else in there.

Re: Used sails for latest project
I can't see the image, but is it a true gaff rig, with the gaff set up to make an angle with the mast, or a sliding gunter (like the Mirror). If its a sliding gunter then you could simply get a Mirror sail cut down, or perhaps go hunting for Cadet sails. There are still seriously raced Cadets about,...

Re: Daring dinghy
won't take up any more space, nor resource, than a Merlin or 14. If you only have room for one boat you probably want it to be a good one. The same probably applies if you only have room for two. So the market for the obscurities that probably weren't that great is limited to people who have good d...

Re: Removing silicone sealant
I'm not recommending this for a boat but I was told you can removing silicon sealant from round a bath by spraying it with wd40 and then warm it with a hairdryer, not a hot air gun, and then it will easily peal off. I've never tried this so don't know if it works anyway but you would have to chemic...

Re: TV series coming soon
But sailing canoes are not, nor have ever been, aligned with dinghies - and after the discussions and debates at their Worlds this year, will never be so! Administratively that's true, but administration isn't everything. For example the most important Canoe designers in the first half of the 20thC...

Re: TV series coming soon
You can go back even further to the Nobby's if you like but in terms of dinghies that were specifically designed for racing then it is 1912 Of course the canoe racing classes were decades earlier. The earliest documented history of small sailboat racing in this country is all about canoes. By the 1...
