Re: Moving Quickly Along - Merlin 950

Advice taken on board and ruminated upon. However this is what I am going to do, for better or worse. I am go to strip the deck back and try the G4 - now ordered. I have a couple of soft spots that I hope will be firmed up by it and I have to get those cracks stabilized. I will then top it off with ...

Re: Merlin Rocket bits - 950

The top set of 'spreaders' point forward and form a diamond shape with the wire. If that is any help.

Re: Moving Quickly Along - Merlin 950

Thanks Chris.

I can see your advice is going to be very useful for this project. You had better check the wanted section :D

I will google G4 and see if I can stretch my budget to it. The though of being able to put on many coats quickly does sound appealing

Cheers

Merlin Rocket bits - 950

On inspection last night I have discovered that I have a few broken or missing bits. If anyone has any of the following spare, to give/sell I would be most appreciative: 1. One of my long yellow crewsaver bouyancy bags is actually a mast float, something I only discovered when I pulled it out from u...

Re: Moving Quickly Along - Merlin 950

Don'r panic Captain Mainwaring! A racing dinghy sailed primarily on fresh water and covered when not in use is hardly "marine use"! I whole heartedly agree. However since spending the best part of 3 hours last night tring to flat down the existing varnish on the topsides I am almost of th...

Re: Insurance - Merlin Rocket - Oh dear!

I have just Insured with Towergate Mardon on their Gold policy. This covers towing, racing both at club and open events. [urlhttp://www.towergatemardon.co.uk/dinghy-insurance.aspx][/url] I initially found this link via the RYA site. It would seem that the Merlin Rocket has now moved up to Group 5 an...

Re: Insurance - Merlin Rocket - Oh dear!

I have just had a quote of £51.00 from another insurer, Towergate Mardon. I will try Bishop Skinner shortly, by telephone, but their online quote was £85 - just done this and they have amended their quote to £123! I have been insuring cheap/slow boats and of course I was slightly ill-prepared for in...

Insurance - Merlin Rocket - Oh dear!

All, I just rang Newton Crum, who I have both my other dinghy's insured with, only to be told that they will not insure a Merlin Rocket, irrespective of age. Probably too many broken carbon masts. So I looked at the web, and found another web based insururer and was quoted £85, which I thought was a...

Re: Moving Quickly Along - Merlin 950

Okay, Well I picked here up last night, quite a road trip and did not get back into to Swindon until 10.45pm. So what have I got for my money? I shall start with the bad points: 1. The deck is covered with thousands of longitudenal cracks in the varnish. For some reason the new varnish has failed. I...

Re: Moving Quickly Along - Merlin 950

For constant wind, perhaps a curry is in order.

Lake sailor's song:

Sails, centreboard, balance, trim, course made good. Sails centreboard, balance, trim, course made good. Sails, etc.

No time for conversation, the wind has changed.

My legs still hurt...BB

Looks like I m not really fit enough for this sailing malarky.

My thighs are still aching from Bough Beech - its making ascending/descending stairs particularly arduous.....

...What a 'girls blouse'!

Re: Moving Quickly Along - Merlin 950

Yes well, its typical conditions at South Cerney as well. Its caused quite a stir with the few people I have talked to at the club as well, I think I might have a few members being especially nosey when I take it up there this weekend. I will have to get the spinnaker sorted as well...And insurance....

Re: Moving Quickly Along - Merlin 950

I hope to have a month or two to try and get to grips with it. You never know if there is a suitable venue that is not too far away, then you might see me before the end of the season.

Cheers

Re: Moving Quickly Along - Merlin 950

Well, we will see what we have got when I get it home. I am going down tomorrow night to Okehampton to pick it up straight from work. 2 and half hours there, and 2 and a half back. Should be back by midnight. Then I can have a play around and a practice rig on the drive. Should have her wet by the w...
