'Salty' ply
I've started to strip the ply side decks of my dinghy prior to re-varnishing. The varnish was starting to lift in places. In one area I stripped down to bare wood (heat gun) and the following day it had darkened and felt damp to touch. Upon further investigation, a good lick that is, it appears to b...

WWSC on the transom. West Wittering SC where only locals can join. I am something of a Coventry Victor afficionado, that is a small post war one (based on removable cylinder heads). I'd love to see the Hotchkiss water jet, they made some great cars (and trucks) and I am currently rebuilding a waterj...

Re: A bit on the wild side
Once my back has improved I will send a search party into the attic in an attempt to capture said item.

Not an easy project...
...nor a racing dinghy, but it needs saving, maybe. A chap in Worthing has had this in his front garden for many years. It is a 13ft Sussex Beach Boat built by Lowers of Newhaven in, I guess, the 40s or 50s. As such it is a rare survivor of a working clinker dinghy. It has a 'lute' stern, centreboar...

Re: A bit on the wild side
Of interest maybe? That Shearwater kit looks fun. http://www.vmyg.org.uk/index.htm In the attic I have a lovely carvel built keelboat signed by E Bostock of Wallasey. It is around 3ft long and probably from the 30s/40s/50s?. I had thought to restore it but suspect it is best left. On one side the va...

Re: Disposal
Reciprocating saw. I managed to get a Reliant Scimitar down to the tip in this way (well the body only).
If the unmentionable is full of foam it might get quite messy!
Quite fun though for those with a mean streak.

Pup? I thought a Pup was something Australian...

Re: Trolley tyres
In the end they wouldn't fit because they would foul my launching bars (or whatever you would call the poles on either side of the trolley that I have made to make it easier to launch and retrieve with a strong cross tide). I am using ancient cracked trolley tyres pumped up to around 10 psi. Gives t...

Re: Smaller sails for a GP14
Thanks for the help all, we think we have found an old GP14 main to put some reefing points into which may be the best option.

Re: Smaller sails for a GP14
I had thought that if the Heron jib is significantly shorter on the luff then it could be set with a strop at the tack to lift it up some.

Re: Smaller sails for a GP14
Thanks, not too far, will let you know.
Presumably they were for a bermudian (bermudan?) rig rather than the early gunter?

Re: Smaller sails for a GP14
Steve,
Old Heron sails if you have them might be the answer, we will do the maths.
Where are you?
