Re: Another Enterprise Restoration of boat number 1734
Can you shed any light on the 2"pieces of wood at the stern? Need to know about this before replacing / cutting any expensive marine ply (I got some prices from Robbins which made me feel quite sick. Has anyone heard of Lathams in Exeter?) not without a pic. Not well up on Ents. One of the Ent...

Re: Another Enterprise Restoration of boat number 1734
Thanks Kev. I won't lie, each step from now is new ground for me that will need skills I am going to have to learn as I go. I was planning to go as original as I can, so brass screws was what I had in mind. The reason I thought the original screws were copper was the blue copper sulphate looking co...

Re: Another Enterprise Restoration of boat number 1734
The screws won't be copper, though they might all that's left if they where brass. Moreover likely they will be bronze, Si Br. Unless you a doing a completely authentic restoration you will probably want to replace with stainless. Make sure you use a marine quality stainless, A4 or 316. I've found t...

Re: Another Enterprise Restoration of boat number 1734
One trouble is that names for all the boat parts were invented well before light plywood dinghies came on the scene. For me, as well as Jim's description, the inside floor stiffeners are also called stringers, even though they aren't part of the main structure. And the rubbing strip is the outer pa...

Re: mast floats....thoughts
Hi Kev, What is the smallest boat that sails this course? Do you have safety boat trailing you on a cruise? The idea of sailing through a major city centre as opposed to countryside is interesting, do you have a quieter area for racing or do you dodge Ferries? excuse all the questions. Downriver? R...

Re: mast floats....thoughts
Hi Kev, Brilliant photo, sailing with a city backdrop. I have a bouyant mast top section, so no choice in the matter. Oh yea. Pier head and the 3 graces, world class. Never tire of the view. Pretty tight at this spot well lots of commercial traffic so not a great pace to capsize. Standing invite fo...

Re: mast floats....thoughts
[quote="Rupert"]Needs to be gold, really, to blend in with the mast! At first glance, it looked like it was standing straight up in the air... that would be a neat trick if you could do it! Then I realized just how reefed the sail was - must have been a lot windier than it looks in the pho...

Re: mast floats....thoughts
On monohull dinghies the problem of turning turtle is a mere trifle compared to a catamaran turning turtle... Hobie cats do have external halyards and (hopefully) sealed masts but they do turn turtle and rarely come back unless some powerboat hemps towing downwind (generally putting the boat in tje...

Yes you can put in a scarf joint, Check you tube, but now your separating the men from the boys!

Re: Another Enterprise Restoration of boat number 1734
Not an enterprise expert by a long way but try and help..... I certainly wouldn't try and reinforce the floor, it should be plenty strong enough as long as you're son isn't jumping up and down in her while she's one the trailer. The mast is deck stepped so you put up the mast without getting in the ...
