It was Robbins marine ply, not the cheapest variety, but the next one up.

And from the rear:

Shaped the gunnels and then 3 coats of G4 over the Christmas period.

Have to let her harden off for a week or two, before she gets 'wet & dried' and then a couple of coats of traditional varnish. Then she will be ready for whatever next year throws at her.

The was a thread about this recently - well, I the last year.

Every thing from mixing in sand into paint or varnish to sprinkling on sugar when the varnish is down. The sugar then dissolves, just leaving its imprint.

Yes, Rupert gave me a bag full to borrow. I felt that it was my duty to ensure that they were all functional.

I avoided using nails down the centerline, especially on the second sheet, by using that long piece of wood and those large clamps. Seemed to work okay. Foamy glue used.

I used a length of mahogany trim down the centerline of the foredeck to butt the new panels up to. I have a small piece of tidying up with the same trim at the very tip of the bows before I put the gunnels on. Then some G4 in the new year.

Michael, Sorry to hear about potential leaks on Desperation. I had no indication whatsoever that there were any issues with the glued planks when I was working on her - stripping the outer varnish. I would check the bailers. I suspect that the nonslip floor has been varnished over on more than over ...
