Re: National 12 "Spider" and my Europa Moth for sale

Okay, So I blinked first, and I am taking on Spider from Sami. I am picking her up this afternoon. I will quickly complete what work Sami has started and get her back on the water - 'toot sweet like' - in my bestist Frernch. Elaine, my better and more sensible half, has at least stopped spitting fea...

Re: Int 14 project

Chris,

You are not thinking of taking on an apprentice are you?

I might be available next year.......I might also have an 'apprentice piece' to practice on.....

Cheers

Re: National 12 "Spider" and my Europa Moth for sale

Sami,

I feel very sad about your predicament. You really do have my condolences, for sure.

I would love to take on your N12, but I have 2 already and both need some work, one, quite seriously.

I hope things improve for you soon.

Regards

Re: Shearwater 19th July

Yes, and he has also convinced me to get signed up as an Assistant Instructor to help out with the juniors......Should not have drank that wine on Saturday night, round the camp fire. I'll agree to anything with a glass in my hand....Allegedly.

its not going to get planet fixed though.

Re: Shearwater 19th July

Chris, How about if I bring her over and you can have a look. Let me check to ensure we are not double booked for anything. But I think we will need to steam two ribs. And I will have to get some of those nails/rivets. You can teach me how to do it. Now that Desperation has found a new home, I am fe...

Re: Shearwater 19th July

Not sure Planet is going to make it. She is leaking quite a bit from all over the place and I think I have a second rib gone underneath the foot boards. I am still sailing her, but this will probably be the last year. I will have to do something with her after that. I have never steamed any ribs in,...

Re: N12 or classic moth for single-handing?

I quite often sail one of my National 12s single handed when conditions are right. However, I do actually find I prefer to sail my older boat Planet, on my own, as it is has a heavy center plate, wooden spars, and seems more forgiving. Also, I can effectively reef it by using an old set of cotton sa...

That cannot be the same wreckage you showed me a couple of years ago, surely?

Well done, that man.

Re: British Moth 518

Hope you have luck with this. I would have it off you myself, but I am suffering from the same problem. Too many boats.

I am a N12 too many, and frankly the Merlin Rocket, which is semi stripped, is also surplus to requirements, currently.

Good luck

Re: recomisioning a mirror after a long layup

There might be one at the club to purloin/borrow. I got a hold of one for Charlotte Billington (She who occasionally crewed for me in my N12), when her kids were dabbling with Cadets. She was considering getting an old Mirror over from friends on the Isle of White. But the Mirror was not up to it. S...

Re: recomisioning a mirror after a long layup

I actually still have Oxo's wooden mast and boom, that originally came with it. Although the mast has a crack in it.

Re: recomisioning a mirror after a long layup

Jules, Don't get me wrong, Both Chris and I found the sailing with Cadets at SCSC a very positive experience. We both learned a great deal. These boats do change hands quite often for many different reasons. And it is of little concern to me now that we are done, although Chris might be interested o...

Re: recomisioning a mirror after a long layup

I cannot understand why the Mirror was taking on this Role when it was already being fulfilled by the Cadet class. Whilst the Cadets do not necessarily suffer from the same extremes (although it is probably a close run thing) as the Mirrors seem to be, if the above is true, you could still get a woo...

Re: Classic National 12 on the bay

I wish the purchaser the best of luck. And I hope the transaction does complete successfully. Although I listed what I thought of the condition. the boat, I felt, was eminently retrievable. But when you have two already and are behind in their upkeep, it was not for me. Not only that, but I have giv...
