Re: Bosun
I haven't sailed a Bosun for over twenty years, but still have a soft spot for them as I learnt a lot of my sailing skills in one. The Bosun is a heavy boat, apparently, when the Royal Navy were looking at a training boat they dropped various boats off the flight deck of HMS Invincible into the wate...

Re: 2010 confirmed locations and dates
Sorry to ramble on, what would the preference be for Oulton Week, split the week in two (Already pencilied in) or a complete week? My thoughts are divided, if we split the week in two, some people turn up for the first half, some people turn up for the other, and in all reports it may look like a po...

Re: 2010 events
Thanks Rupert, the details are with the committee now. We just hope that there is a BIG turnout from the CVRDA. There is a possibilty of a trophy for each days racing.... And, if you want a venue for the 2011 nationals, given notice I'm sure Oulton Broad would br happy to oblige (that looks spelt wr...

Re: OULTON GULL
I think (not sure!) that it was David Hannant that said only five were built. Hope I hav'nt been putting words into his mouth....
(if it wasn't David not sure who did tell me that)
Maybe Jamie Campbell will know?..

Re: Osprey 55
Books on mast building, hmmm. I think that there was something in Ricahrd Birmingham's book "Boatbuilding Techniques Illustrated", but unfortunatly I lent that book to someone many years ago (I forget who!) and never got it back, so am unable to check for sure..

Re: 2010 events
If I may, just to reiterate Oulton Week 2010 is 22 -27 August 2010. Club Racing will take part on 21 August and 28 August, if you want to appear you will be welcome.... However, be warned on the 21st very few people turn out, to save themselves for the week, and on the 28th the boats turning out wil...

Re: OULTON GULL
Interestingly the Pathe newsreel opens a quandry that maybe only AG can answer.... We believed that only FIVE Oulton Raters were built, this can not be true as we see from the newsreel that XX7 was sailing?? So, how many raters were built? Was the 7 just a very poor 1 or were more raters built than ...

Re: OULTON GULL
Alan, the two Oulton Raters are always happy to take people sailing in them (believe it or not they have trouble getting crew). To arrange a sail give the WOBYC clubhouse a ring (01502 565619) on a Sunday morning and leave a message for either David Gooch (Crisis XX1) or Eric Pearce (Catastrophe XX2...

Re: OULTON GULL
The last Oulton Gull I saw was one we launched from Trumans for Mathew Truman to sail about 20 (ish) years ago. It leaked like a seive. One of my jobs at the yard that year was to bail the boat out everday during Oulton Week for Mathew to sail it. Interesting that it is related to an American design...

Re: 2010 events
I'm only going to say one further thing and then I give up! At present the CVRDA have three starts a day at Oulton Week. If you only want to use half the week that is between yourselves. We have offered to let you use CVRDA handicaps. We have experience with using different handicap methods to the u...

Re: 2010 events
Sorry Neil, just remebered, Salcombe was really cheap last time I went there... (I do hope this is not going to turn into a SW versus everyone else competitiion). The members of the CVRDA need to get on the road and promote themselves. VERY FEW PEOPLE HAVE HEARD OF YOU. (sorry for shouting). The onl...

Re: 2010 events
Neil, I understand where you are coming from (to use awfull modern English). Maybe I misunderstood what the CVRDA was about. I believed it was about making the wrecks we see in every dinghy park go out sailing. A lot of these forgotten boats are of CVRDA vintage or are even lost classes. The simple ...

Well that's up to you, but it may affect the resale value. I would not buy an "out of class boat"....

Re: 2010 events
Hi Jon - sorry, I meant the Oulton committee! I quite agree that the Norfolk Broads are an ideal playground for classic boats. What we have found, though, is that established classic classes have very little need for the cvrda at a racing level, and that we seem to thrive in areas where there is a ...
