Re: lowers bracket

On such an old boat my main fear is always breaking it - bending the mast or worse, sending it shooting through the deck, so I am always tentative.

Interesting that this one is a mere babe compared to the monster in the garage, yet that one seems far more robust!

Re: National Racing Dinghy Archive

Definitely Liz Potter - a legend in my eyes. I know Tony White spoke to her not long ago, somewhere on the East coast I think.

Re: Would it work?

Looks like it's at least one self bailer then. I do suspect there was one in the boat - a strange rectangular recess in the hull, but why would anyone want to fill it back up?

Is there an optimum position for said bailer?

Re: National Racing Dinghy Archive

That sounds fantastic David! I wanted to mention in my 'milestones' thought that it would be good to have some record of the progress that women have made in dinghy racing eg Trine Elvstrom, Cathy Foster, Therese Zabel, Shirley Robertson et al at the Olympics. Will the Archive include such informati...

Re: lowers bracket

Thanks chaps. I had worked out the ropey bits - because I am not going to use wire - so I think now I will either use a kevlar strop type thing, or just a D ring. I will have to scavenge in the depths of my spares box....when it gets warm enough to go into the garage....

Re: Would it work?

that is what worries me....so I suppose if I were really keen I would fit a false floor - or would it be better to fit self bailers?

lowers bracket

Does anyone have one that I could fit to my phantom mast? Or any suggestions for alternatives?

Would it work?

One of my big fears with the phantom (apart from the whole thing falling apart while I am sailing it) is the capsize because I know, although I have yet to capsize the thing, that it will completely fill with water which I will only get out by bailing with a hand bailer (a cut down milk bottle in di...

Re: 1969; Forty Years On

What interest me are the dinghy development 'milestones' eg, when the kicking strap first came into use, the first trapeze etc. Does such a time line exist? (In 1969 my family came home from having lived in the Western sector of Berlin for four years. I was very upset because, despite having given m...

Re: Handicap Racing

I tried to do a pursuit race today as a guest at a club where I have not sailed before. The water was frozen, so no racing, but had we gone I would, in K88, have been on the same handicap as GBR 1111, who also knew the water. So far as I know the classics don't yet have a PY (I'm talking phantoms he...

Re: Whitefriars Winter Classic and Lost Class Meeting. 8th Feb

I am trying to publicise this amongst the classic phantoms, but their website is not very well at the moment. I have at least managed to put it on their Yahoo group.

Re: Possible lost class

Thanks ever so AG x. I have to say it appeals more than the moth, just because of the novelty value, especially since I think I could sail it solo, but I am confused about bot being allowed to use the centre board..?

Re: Possible lost class

Yes, I've now seen one being sailed on youtube and have found various websites, but all the info is in Danish...

Perhaps Ancient Geek might be able to enlighten us. It's a nice looking boat. I'd be keen to know the sail area.

Re: Combi wanted for a Finn

Hi Simon, I have a good contender combi for sale if that is of any use. It is a rapide (I think) and has a cradle shaped to fit a contender but that could probably be changed. i used all last year with no mishaps. It is surplus to need because the boat went to Canada but there was no room in the box...
