Mark - was this the one you saw? From Merlin forum.... <i>One of my old boats, a maximum beam , 7' 2" Bob Hoare Hornblower, would suit beginner to merlins as quite stable but extreme beam meant it scooped water a bit, needed to be sailed very upright. Went ok in its time. See also http://cgi.eb...

2508 43RH Witzend according to the MR Yearbook which translates as a Bob Hoare design and build but no a or b given so it's either a Summer Blues or a Bye Bye Blues design.

The Lakeside Touring Park on 01206 303421 has pitches available for the Bank Holiday weekend, with electricity if required. I stayed there many times in the late sixties and early seventies and it is very conveniently within walking distance of the club, just along the promenade and by the boating l...

Wax remains awkward to handle. Fabsil from the camping shops is better to re-proof a cover. Available as spray can or larger cans which, from years of proofing cotton tents, I know are best put in the garden sprayer to apply.

Have a look for the Stain Devils that does mould and mildew - shouldn't remove the colour. Good harware shops tend tosell them and some larger supermarkets.

How about a handicap for a Bobbin? It's the only thing I've got that's small enough!

I'd like a couple of pages up that are targeted at non-cvrda users: How to maintain your wooden boat and How to maintain your grp boat which provide basic information to get boat owners started and these could then link on to our topics above but could be promoted as "entry points" for new...

I lived by the end of Middle Wallop runway for many years when the airshow was superb - better from our garden or lane than from the arena as we were "air side". The Vulcan and Concorde both had "radio failures" so that they could come down low without air traffic control telling...

Tapered line helps a lot - on both the Lark and the Merlin we use 3mm line with 6mm spliced for the centre section that you hold. Unless you are on a large lake with constant wind, don't cleat the guy unless you're on a tight reach as you need to be constantly adjusting the pole angle to suit the sh...

For those organising events, dates to avoid are the two big Merlin events for their 60th anniversary which are the Tideway race at Ranelagh on June 18th - which used to go down to the Tower of London - and the Celebratory event at Upper Thames Sailing Club (Bourne End) on September 9th/10th with ful...

It would be nice to have an earlier event - it's a long time to Brightlingsea. Also how about promoting the CVRDA at events such as the Dinghy Show and Beaulieu Boat Jumble - if groups like the local scouts can get a stall there selling their old boat bits surely we could? Or even just "meet in...
