Love D.P. quotes
"When at last you say you're his
All shivering and sighing
And he says his love is infinite undieing
Lady just remember this
One of you is lying".
She and Oscar are the source of most good quips, as she - D. P was the first to point out!

Re: Viking dinghy

I remember that thread, we had Gull no 5 as a family boat I would not call it bad in as much as it was pretty in sillouette but the rudder being a long way inboard meant its handling was well sensative!

Re: Viking dinghy

Jon who knows what Desmond Truman was up to with the Oulton Gull, I always though it was an American Design that was built in several centres and then sailed under various local names, sure as eggs is eggs Nick doesn't know!

Re: Moving Quickly Along - Merlin 950

Re Garry's point, the old advice on varnishing was to varnish at or very near dawn when the dew was still on the ground on a still morning as near midsummer as you could, that way no dust, a cool temperature to apply in, and the all important rising temperature for it to dry in. Doesn't seem to matt...

Re: Old rope style

The only thing is how does it feel and reeve round small blocks under light load (Does it run?) and lets face it no matter what it feels like in a dinghy mainsheet it is well below its SWL!

Re: Merlin Rocket bits - 950

The only thing is that if using in a high load situation you do need to beef up the axle with a engineering push fit thicker wall tube or even solid alluminium to prevent wall crushing and distorting under load like Rodney did and we've all followed.

Re: Merlin Rocket bits - 950

As Peter says absolutely nothing wrong with the drum winches most modern Dragons use them (Bgger than dinghy.) for kickers and jib haliyards I never had any problems with mine in 15 years of dinghies Rodeney Pattison even used them for adjusting the shrouds on the first Superdocious. (The Acapulco b...
