Re: Agamemnon - i14 869
Well, that's what I thought. I shall content myself with working on centreboard, rudder etc, in front of the log burning stove and tv. I have just done my contender board under such conditions and it was a very bearable experience.... I do notice that the centreboard for Agamemnon is really quite sm...

Re: Agamemnon - i14 869
Progress here has been held up a bit thanks to a dislocated shoulder making rubbing down etc a tad uncomfortable.... I have made the joyous discovery of the original brass rubbing strake lost in the depths of the garage, however, so it's not all bad! What worries me, however, is that Christmas and a...

Re: Fitting Inspection Hatches
Interesting idea - in my case it's more likely to be there as a support grip for when I am stumbling around the boat - but I don't think so. There is only a strip on one side and it is rounded so wouldn't give much of a handhold.

Re: Singlehanded challenge
This seems to me to be a great idea and well worth developing; it would boost numbers and interest at some CVRDA events and also would give the phantoms some events to go to which would be fun sailing and a chance to exchange ideas with those from other classes who seem to me to be a fount of boat r...

Re: Fitting Inspection Hatches
I'm not sure that my side decks flex that much, but given the age of the boat they may well have been replaced already. Also, on one side there is a strip of wood glued to the side just at the top edge where it joins with the deck, which I have never been able to work out what it's there for. (sorry...

Re: Singlehanded challenge
Firstly, I have to say that as a newcomer I have found this forum to be fantastically helpful as I labour towards the relaunch of my ancient i14. People have been really helpful without being patronising and I have really felt wonderfully welcome. Nextly, it may be that I can't get to too many meeti...

Re: Singlehanded challenge
I think that would be phantastic - I would bring my Menace and I'd hope others would come too.

Re: Singlehanded challenge
It is true that the phantom class is trying to introduce classic racing, but I think they have decided to allow self drainers and epoxy built boats, so mine is already outclassed.

Re: Singlehanded challenge
Oh! How did I miss this? Now you see, if it were allowed I would be outside even now, strapping phantom k88 to the road trolley and bringing her to Baltic Wharf tomorrow (with the contender remaining firmly in the boat park on the grounds of it being not at all sensible to sail such a boat at BW.) I...

Re: Which Singlehander?
I do agree with what Rupert says about the advantages of the Topper, but for the point of the pushy parents. I did safety boat duty at the Topper Nationwide event at Oxford. There were 200 boats taking part. The kids had, for the large part, the best, most up to date kit their parents could buy, and...

Re: Which Singlehander?
But if it must be a single hander, and there is already one at your club, then yes, a Europe is a good little boat and probably more forgiving weight wise than the streaker.

Re: Which Singlehander?
With the development of the new Rooster built Streaker the boat is undergoing a huge boost in popularity - 50+ at the nationals, including a good helping of female and junior sailors. It does mean, however, that decent second hand boats are rare. There were two on ebay recently, but that is unusual....
