Re: Roland Europe

Peter is absolutely right you must get the traveller under the boom to put any form of tension on the leech of the sail with the Moth unstayed rig which to windward means having the boom on the deck in a blow. To try to do the same with the kicker would need one mighty ammount of purchase, which you...

Re: Fixtures 2012

Roadford will be more than happy to host an event, and we are more than willing to host the Nationals, however the August Bank Holiday is taken up by the Goodacre Cup our Club Regatta and whilst visitors are encouraged the committee is concerned that it would be difficult to run the two events toget...

Re: novice seller International moth mk III

Wow, look at those prices in the catalogue. I remember thinking about selling on my 'Nervous Breakdown' to buy a Skol and thinking I could not justify spending that much.

Re: weight limit on a trapeze wire!!!

I have had more than a couple of crews using the wire on the FD who were in excess of 16 stone, but then the FD carries weight well.
I wont guess at AlanW's weight but he has been one of the suspects....

Re: We are not the only nutters

Mimie Currey, a delightful lady, spent about twenty minutes chatting to Alan and I at the Dinghy Show this year when she visited us on the Finn stand to look at the classic Finn, she was a mine of information and said she was thoroughly enjoying her first visit to the show in many years.

Re: Best 'spin-out' class & best missed 'spin-out' class

I remember the fleet of Sprogs that sailed at Babbacombe in the late seventies, and they did not really bear much resmblance to Scorpions. Big Al should be along sometime as I remember him telling me about the Scorpion having to pay royalties to the Hornet designer due to it just being scaled down f...

Re: More Wrecks

If you visit the International FD Assoc website you will find a fair bit of info lurking in the USA assoc on the Schooneveldt as they do cater for the older boats and from memory there were a couple of rebuilds going on which will be in the archives. I may be wrong but I seem to remember Keith Musto...

Re: More Wrecks

Hi Roger, K273 rings bells for me but I do not have access to any records, the man to speak to is the class secretary Tony Llyal who has the register of all British boats. I restored GBR 350 to her former glory but after losing my crew sold her on, I also acquired another very well known FD which I ...

Re: Speed

The Finn class has for some time allowed the Tactic Micro as do an increasing number of classes, however the next step up which provides boat speed and vmg etc is currently not allowed. Do we really wish to open this can of worms? I am however a great believer in allowing these devices to be used, a...

Never mind the drysuit, does this mean your Finn is back on the water and able to support the Classic Nationals in June at Falmouth?
