Re: One Design from Cornwall??
Grief, there were so many local one designs. My old PY list has St Mawes, Starcross, North Devon, Teign Corinthian from that part of the world and that's just ones with regional names and published PY numbers.... You could try trekking round clubs and buying the oldest members a drink I suppose.

Re: Who built my boat?
The class rules specify the number should be either on the transom or the hog, although I think transom was more usual. I have no recollection of seeing one on the hog. By the 70s Smallcraft were I think the only builder. A 4 digit number starting with 3 on a wooden boat is a surprise: I have no gue...

Re: Gull Mk2 foredeck canvas
Thanks Jim. I'll give it some thought. Did you ever sail a Gull with the mast in the forward position? I am mostly single handed and wonder if it is worth a try. Was there much difference between Bermuda rig and gunter rig? I have sailed with the mast forward, but don't recall much about it. It was...

Re: Gull Mk2 foredeck canvas
I was quite a lot involved with Gulls in the mid 70s, and was familiar with the Mk2, but I have absolutely no recollection of ever seeing a canvas foredeck. TBH I'd be inclined to make a slot over one out of plywood and have it held down with bungees. You ought to be able to get something usable out...

Re: Gull Dinghy Mast Wanted
I doubt its critical. If you're prepared to do a bit of tin bashing I bet any reasonably light spar will do the job. Measure the desired hounds to mast tip and hounds to foot dimensions, grab the lightest spar in the scrap pile at your sailing club that exceeds them, and cut both ends to length. For...

Re: Mast carrying on vans
As the raters are out of the water at the moment anyway (I presume) why don't you just put one on a trailer and tow it down to get the mast? Alternatively with just an empty trailer would the overhangs each end be within limits if you roofrack the mast overhanging a rater trailer?

Re: Wood finish...
Thanks again Chris, I used an allegedly cedar tinted danish oil, which has brought the meranti ply and tthe cedar sides and ends reasonably close together.

Re: Wood finish...
To catch up, I went with Chris' floor varnish, which did the job nicely. I now have another one... I've made a case for an instrument from left over moth building materials, to wit cedar plank sides and ply top and bottom. This one isn't going to go on the road but it will be pulled in and out of cu...

Re: Swallows and Amazons.
Depends what you call evidence. I raced against a GRP Plus, probably sailed in it too, but that was 40 years ago. And yes, the other post is correct now I think of it, no stern deck.cocoandfly wrote:Interesting Jim. Any actual evidence to support this?

Re: Swallows and Amazons.
There was indeed at least one fibreglass Plus. I never saw a second one. Sail number was 60something.cocoandfly wrote:I really suspect there were no grp ones. But who knows.
