The Merlin has a slight advantage over most Clinker boats in that the plank runs are very flay giving at least a pseudo waterline. Do not bother with lasers, (beams not boats :D :D ). having put many waterlines on boats they can give very strange results as they cannot cope with the hull changing sh...

Nessa, is right. In 88 noises were being made about media coverage and the fact that the old sail letters did not match the IOC country codes - very confusing for the public! For the 92 Barcelona games the boats all carried the 3 letter codes as per IOC designation. The rules for everyone to change ...

I used to sail a Bonito back in the 70's at Clacton. Good fun from what I recall although I do accept one can look back .......
Can't remember what it was like against the 4 sail number lasers that were there although I do remember that they were uncomfortable to sail even then!

Phew, I think I need to offer a few comments. ACB. There was no requirement for a class to be a one design to have national status. Whilst most of the world had either OD or Development classes we had the half way house of a "restricted" class as well. The Albacore and the Hornet were both...

With regard to whats in and whats out, I assume that the constitution was not handed down from above and is a document like and set of rules, written on paper and not carved in stone. Everything evolves and it is only the speed at which this happens which is controlled. I am not say what if anything...

I think that we really must distinguish between a class that is built by one manufacturer and a manufacturer's class. The Firefly might indeed be the first boat aimed at the mass market and produced by one manufacturer. However, it is fundamentally different now and always was from the current SMOD'...
