Re: CVRDA nats Clywedog August

I would like a close look over a Firefly this weekend, after almost buying one on ebay last week.....Might be a boat for the lad to move into when he is done with Cadets... ...And something for me to sail when the MR is not the answer (jollies with inexperienced crew and windy weather). Cheers Steve...

Re: CVRDA nats Clywedog August

I expect to be in the area during early Friday Afternoon. Is it likely that the club will be open? I would like to park up the boat, and possibly rig her before going to look for the B and B. I will be starting from Swindon Friday morning, and it is unlikely I will be hanging about waiting for the t...

Re: Cotton sail Challenge at nats

Chris, Bring em along. I'll give them a go on Desperation (950), for a race or two. Although, I beleive I have the original sails for my boat - a set of terylene sails made by Ratsey and Lamphorn (?) in Cowes - dated 1959, same year as the boats was built. But I feel I might need a better excuse for...

Re: Gardeners' Question Time

JCB and a chainsaw? My 'dear beloved' does it with a machete and flame thrower. Slash and Burn, I think its called. I suggest you get a very big shed to cover the entire garden. That way you will always be able to get that last coat of paint/varnish on. Or get and old sail and make a 'shade' for the...

And another picture.

Me - the fat one at the back, Lucy - a new Cadet helm from 96 Cadet Sqn, and Kathryn - my daughter.

A picture - MR 950 Desperation

Just for those MR fans. A Merlin with some more Rocker than most.

And a pretty slack tension. No doubt the experts can put me right on a few things in Wales at the end of the month.

Re: Help - what am I doing?

I am afraid I copped out and used pins. The old deck had pins in it and now so has the new. I could not find enough clamps locally at a reasonable price I doubt if the rest of the boat will last as long as the new deck, so I am not too worried. It'll get it through the next 10 years or so. Cheers St...

Re: Help - what am I doing?

Well, What I should have mentioned was that as well as my son's Cadet, I have another Cadet that I have just redecked. It has been G4'd and is about to be painted. B&Q's best gloss Mallard Blue. And in a week's time I should be able to give it a few coats of varnish, before putting it all back t...

Help - what am I doing?

Just got off Ebay after being outbid (thankfully) for a local vintage (1956) Firefly that went for a very cheap £310 in the usual last minute scramble.......What am I doing ? I have my new Merlin (first registered in 1959). My son has his Cadet (first registered in 1956). So why am I looking at a fi...

Re: CVRDA nats Clywedog August

My 'missus', Elaine, will also be sightseeing with my 9 year old daughter, Kathryn, both of whom have yet to catch the sailing bug! Although Elaine does speak welsh...And not of that 'who's coat is that jacket' variety either! My son Chris will be crewing for me, as long as he stops bleating......An...

Re: A couple of Mirror problems

Ah a Heron.

I used to have one of those. Probably have another one in due course.

Lovely old boat. I like the old wood on frame, Gunter rigged variety.

If I were ever to get the opportunity to build a boat, a Heron kit would be on my short list.

Cheers

Re: CVRDA nats Clywedog August

I will be up with the familly and MR 950. My son (Chris) will be crewing whilst the boss (Elaine) will be sightseeing with my daughter (Kate). The boss does not do camping so the money I am saving for a new boat cover is being used to put us up at a farm B&B on the other side of the lake at cons...

Re: MR 950 Shake down.

Update: I have used some of that Zap on the centre board case and the patch. But I have not yet removed the tape so I do not know whether it works fully yet. Need to bring along some spirit to clean up where the tape has been. All the cam cleats need a bit of oiling as they all seem to be a bit stic...
