Re: Rejuvinating Faded Wood
This takes me back to Naval CCF; No3 uniform code. Flared blue flannel trousers had to be iron with a triple crease to each side and seven (for the seven seas) horizontal creases alternatively back to front. When I wore a navy blue uniform the horizontal creases were spaced the width of a seaman's ...

Re: 2009 calendar
As 2146 is a composite does she count as a plastic fantastic?Anyone want a Plastic Fantastic event whilst all the wooden boats are tucked up in bed?
Seriously though, depending on the date I'd probably be able to come.

Re: RNLI radio license fees
On a different note, I'd not realized that a volunteer coastwatch service had been set up in the mid 90's, to do what the government declared was unnecessary. Anyone know any more about it? A friend of mine is a volunteer at the Skegness station and earlier this year he gave a facinating presentato...

As I'm not a member of that Yahoo group I can't see the pic. However, "N" is the sail marking for a National 12.

Seafire Dinghy
Currently there is a Seafire dinghy for sale on ebay at what seems a good price, though it hasn't reached its reserve and there ar still several days to go. From trawlling the internet I see they were designed as a rival to the Enterprise, with a PY of 1116 with a spinnaker and were reputed to be ve...

Re: my new old firefly
My old neighbour here in Calstock was the 'Commander' in charge of the RNSAs at Dartmouth RN College. He assured me he was told to burn them....and burn them he did! ...... eib I remember the Dartmouth RNSAs in the late 70s. By then they only seemd to be used very occassionally and then only for pu...

Re: Advertised as an Ent
Martin, I've pictures of very early Grads that have both the breakwater and a raised transom horse. Case rests for the Grad believers David Thanks for that David. There is a very old Grad next to mine in the dinghy park and I've never seen it with the cover off. Next weekend I may just have to take...

Re: Advertised as an Ent
As a Grad sailor I tend to agree with Jonathon and David, the angles from the side decks looks right and the top of the stern tank apears to be concave. However, I can't remember seeing a Grad with a breakwater on the foredeck, though I'm sure someone can correct me, and the horse is much higher tha...

Re: Netley Event Details
Would you fit in the front end of a Firefly, Martin? Anything up to about 11 stone is fine, after that, the cramp and bashed head become a problem! Sorry Rupert, I'm more like 12 and a half stone. I wouldn't want to make her submarine too much. I don't worry about the bashed head though, the Grad's...

Re: Netley Event Details
I'm hoping to get down to Netley. Unfortunately the Graduate needs some work and Catherine is working so I will probably be available as a crew if anyone wants to take a chance.

Re: Sailing In Ambridge
Didn't Kenton manage a marina after he left the merchant navy? I can't remember where he went to college, but they probably had a few dinghies there. GPs or Ents maybe? That reminds me, are there any ex-RN whalers about that are still rigged for sailing? 27 ft is a bit long but with a (large) centre...
