Re: Moth merry-go-round

Ok....thanks Jim and Rupert, that gives me a good starting point I think, and could be useful to open a discussion with the powers-that-be at the club when I get that far :)

Re: Moth merry-go-round

Thanks guys......she wasn't an easily secured load coming home (there were all the spares aboard too) but if I can get her to fit on her combi more securely for quick loading and safe transport then she may well make an appearance at one or two CVRDA events this year .....which brings me to the next...

Moth merry-go-round

As some of you may know I (somewhat reluctantly) parted with the Europa that was an "in progress" project...Gone to Hotspur who I'm sure will have her afloat again soon :) ...but I can't leave Moths alone, and now have the bright green Scow that I believe may have been somewhere in the Cot...

Re: UnSkol gets a newbottom...

Hi Jim....I'm still reading with interest.....a mammoth job you have undertaken there..............are you tempted to convert her to foiling whilst you're about it

Re: Charity Race.................

I think I may have just found a build project to relieve the boredom of Christmas TV now then :) We regularly walk around the millpond and watch the racing on the seaward side, and the radio controlled on the pond.......this idea sounds a lot of fun.....definitely have to go and have a look at the v...

Re: GP14 age and 3 stud trailer wheel availability?

Some intriguing suggestions here guys.......its one of those nagging little problems that becomes an alternative to counting sheep on a sleepless night :) As for the spinach idea..... I already eat huge amounts of it....with pepper and nutmeg......really yummy, genuinely one of my favourite foods!

Re: GP14 age and 3 stud trailer wheel availability?

Yes, Roger, a jockey wheel makes a huge difference....and this trolley has an inflated one, so ideal. Not sure F1 trolley racing on the slipway would go down very well Michael, but a lovely bit of nostalgia :) cweed....only just seen your comment re Blendworth trailers.....thanks....worth a look nex...

Re: GP14 age and 3 stud trailer wheel availability?

Hmmm point taken Jim.......and I fear I'm not that much younger....and certainly no stronger! Maybe a length of 40mm plastic pipe then?.....much lighter! It would still wedge the wheels I think...... I have a load here too, so I can experiment :)

Re: GP14 age and 3 stud trailer wheel availability?

Interesting idea Michael...... I just had a quick look at pics of the slip, but can't see any easily available attachment points :( Statistically, there is likely to be someone there who would lend a hand on most occasions...and it has just struck me that I may be over complicating things for the od...

Re: GP14 age and 3 stud trailer wheel availability?

Yes Jim......sort of what I have in mind: The chocks would be pivoted from the axle and swing in a second pivot.......rather like a car on a Ferris wheel, effectively a cam.....so that they drop under the wheel when needed. They are joined across the length of the axle by a simple rod that has a cen...

Re: GP14 age and 3 stud trailer wheel availability?

Peter.....sort of what I intend....not very wide slipway, but pushing the bow from side to side effectively pulls her up if the pressured wheel is blocked by my brake/chock idea.....all theory at present, but I feel confident it will work if I can find suitable bits of metal lying around......a nice...

Re: GP14 age and 3 stud trailer wheel availability?

Yes... KERS technology on a launching trolley......great idea :) I'm sure it must be possible, but anything complex (or electro mechanical jockeys etc) has to deal with water....often salt water, as we have down here!......so simplicity is needed I think. Jim.....there's a winch for the slip up to r...

Re: GP14 age and 3 stud trailer wheel availability?

Thanks guys........that fits with what I thought........sail number is 8102, and the previous family of owners told me they had owned her for getting on for 50 years ......passed down from father to daughter. I spoke to the father when we collected the boat, but forgot to ask if they bought her new....

GP14 age and 3 stud trailer wheel availability?

We have just bought a GP14 and I looked at the GP website only to find that the boat register is no longer available to view :( As we bought this boat from a family who owned it long term (may have been a one owner boat in fact), I wanted to date her roughly. The sail number is just over 8k, and she...

Re: Wayfarer W3

In my experience "old" metal is better than modern.....if it hasn't been dunked then an old trailer is often perfectly ok, as long as the mechanical parts are ok......perished suspension rubber (if fitted) is often the real problem.....but caution is definitely needed, as they don't all la...
