I presume that is the Renovated "Swallow" that they are using.
If so what a good job Merlinmags did getting her from out of the Rochester Auction!

Re: Fairey Albacore mast on ebay
Definitely not for £100 (reserve) on listing. This looks like a chimaera,... a monster of several parts. The Fairey bits (namely attachment "cheeks" that should hold the non -rotating gooseneck are a completelty different colour to the mast itself and have been bolted / screwed into positi...

This looks to me like a precursor to a "Zap-Cat." Basically miniature powerboat racing or a bit like "Speedway" racing on water. Right up your street Ed once the shoulder can move a bit.

Re: Bosham classics
Hi David, My own feeling on Handicaps is that I've never been able to find a way to win or do well. In strong winds the fast boats fly away and in light airs I seem to go backwards. Winning is as it always has been, is a matter of endless practice, natural talent and not a small amount of money. Tho...

Re: Ben Her restoration
Michael, Forgive me, but won't tapping in the nails loosen the tight contact between the strakes and ribs? With my vintage 14 the nails go right through the ribs with the ends turned over to make a tight bond, any tapping of the heads would loosen this. You have a point there, ... I was thinking in...

Re: Ben Her restoration
I think there is going to be an issue with all those nails as there is evidence of oxidation affecting them (That green powdery residue and some cracking appearing around all of the nail heads.) However well you work around the nail heads the effect of oxidatiion on those 'green' headed screws will ...

I congratulate you on your careful assessment and repair of a beautiful piece of history. :) I congratulate you on your use of appropriate professional help and admire what has already been done. :D Like you I have doubts about my wood work skills on some of the repairs that are needed, but I believ...

Re: Good Mastic for clinker seams
A thought I would throw in the ring after Ed's comments is that a leaky Clinker (ie the need for mastic) implies almost inevitably that the ribs and strakes are not "tight." It is the pulling together of the strakes and ribs, caused by the expansion of the wood as it absorbs the water, tha...

Re: I hope they don't have "high hopes."
It does seem as though the ants are mostly running between one place and another, but the extent of their territory is quite worrying. I have removed the mast foot fitting (for fixed mast) which exposed the older, currently unused rotating mast foot fitting which curiously is a female fitting. (oppo...

I hope they don't have "high hopes."
I have pulled the covers off Torment and cleaned off the winter cobwebs to discover a rather disturbing issue (literally) of ANTS, pouring out from around my mast step. I would post a picture, but my photobucket account has shut down on me after they discovered I was using it to post pictures on oth...

International Canoe K89? Back on ebay.

Re: How to brace MK1 Firefly centreboard case
I braced my Fairey Finn centreboard case to the floor just by the side tanks. I epoxied the strut to the angle between the floor and the tank. I did it to be sure the boat was strong enough for rough sea sailing and its lasted 6 years so far, so, if your rules allow it it's certainly a viable optio...
