1957 Fairey Int 14
With some regret I am looking to sell my 1957 Fairey International 14. She has been restored over the past 2 years and I was looking forward to sailing her at the Classic International 14 events this year. Unfortunately as is often the case with the best laid plans things have gone awry, the problem...

Re: Vintage 14 wanted
If you are after a really vintage one I notice the 1925 Morgan Giles one that was mentioned here some months ago is now in the "getting afloat" section of this months Classic Boat. I think she is number 82. The contact given is l.flower@btopenworld.co.uk. From what I remember she is in nee...

Re: bronze deckware wanted
Hi Chris
I would be interested in the chain plates as I think one would work quite well as the internal stem head fitting for my 14 that I posted about some weeks ago. Could you email me if still available. Thanks

Re: International 14s
Hi Chris Like you I have always had a thing about the old 14s and when I returned to the UK a few years ago I promised myself I would get one to sail in classic events. By a quirk of fate I have now ended up with 2 – K380 a 1937 Uffa boat and K680 a 1957 Fairey. Both are still work in progress but I...

Re: Star Quality.
Strange looking design but definitely a slice of history particularly as according to the Erith yacht club site number 1 built in 1925 was originally owned by a Captain H Nelson!

Re: Highest price per volume?
"he/she is an object of beauty" - of that I have no doubt; there is something about undecked boats. I look forward to seeing the pictures. As regard fitting out I am in much the same position with my Fairey 14 Maelstrom. After a lot of work I now have a beautiful hull but not much else! Th...

Re: Highest price per volume?
Pretty little thing, I have always had a soft spot for Souter’s boats having once long ago visited their yard at Cowes. Given the size and shape I imagine she was built as a sailing tender for a yacht in the days before inflatables. There is quite an interesting article on Souters in http://www.powe...

Re: Fairey 14 stemhead fitting
Thanks for the pictures Ed, rather a case of spot the fitting! I think we can assume that what I am looking for is the 8 screw pin rack shown top left in the first picture and if anyone has one or you knows where I might be able to source something similar I would appreciate hearing from you. I imag...

that makes sense - I look forward to seeing your photos next week. The next step will be to find one!

Re: Fairey 14 stemhead fitting
Nessa - the fitting I am talking about is the metal fitting for attaching the forestay to the stem which on my Fairey was screwed inside the stem below what would be deck level if there was one (I attach another picture which may be clearer). I rather suspect JimC is right and that it was a pin rack...

Fairey 14 stemhead fitting
Does anyone know what the original Fairey 14 internal stemhead fitting looked like? When I got the boat this was missing. There are a good variety of old screw holes to choose from (see attached)!

Re: Cold moulded Faireys
I have often wondered whether the "heat" element of the Fairey process, although primarily to do with the gluing, also inadvertently contributed to the longevity of Fairey hulls. Heat treatment to improve durability and dimensional stability by alteration of cell structure is now establish...
