Re: Classic Int 14 rudder

Thanks Nessa - a picture would be helpful. If possible could you put a ruler or piece of A4 on it somewhere so i can compare its size with the firefly foil pattern.

Classic Int 14 rudder

Hi

I am looking for a rudder for a 1957 Int14 - Fairey type or similar e.g. with elliptical(?) blade and curved stock. The condition is immaterial. Failing that can anyone give me a pattern/drawing/sketch/photo/measurements so i can make one.

Thanks Robert

Re: Vintage 14 Mast dimensions...

sorry you didn't send yours a couple of days earlier as I was looking at the Andrew Thornhill collection on Sunday and there were more classic 14 masts lying around there than I have had hot dinners. Strange business that collection but that's another story. Do I gather you are building a new mast f...

Re: Int 14 spars

Hi David Sorry to be a bit long getting back on this - I tried the email function but i think it got lost when the site went down and have since been away. The boom length is 10ft (a smidgeon over 3m in new money) and i would certainly be interested in anything you have about that size that might su...

Re: Int 14 spars

David

thanks for that - i will get it measured tomorrow and get back to you. the present arrangement is stern bridle and centre sheeting but I am intending to return to the original transom sheeting as suggested.

Re: are we getting heavier

yes, you are right about the steamroller quote (always one of my favourites!) but UF seems to be quite clear about the benefits of the 60lb (half wood/half lead) board on the 14s in terms of providing righting moment when needed. In fact he goes so far as to suggest that getting rid of the weighted ...

Re: Int 14 spars

Thanks for that - i apologise for taking so long to come back but i am away from the boat at the moment. I will try the suggested treatment in the next week or two - it sounds very promising. With the mast sorted (it was indeed a needlespar) the issue remains the boom. I have yet to find anyone who ...

Re: are we getting heavier

At the risk of allowing age to creep over this one the issue for the older dinghy sailor (I speak as one) is definitely declining agility rather than body mass and in this respect the current trend to lightweight hulls, twin trapezes and asymmetric spinnakers the size of the millennium dome is a bit...

Int 14 spars

Following my post re mystery winch I have put some photos of K680 Maelstrom - Fairey 1957 on the web: http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/rmeastham/MaelstromK680?authkey=Gv1sRgCPS1g4Ss8qvuLQ# Given her recent history, the hull is in pretty good shape and needs only cosmetic work however the rig is a diffe...

Re: Int 14 - mystery winch

looks like mystery solved so either it goes (probably) or the hunt is on for the relevant bits for the other end. Pity really as I still think it would make a useful winch with a bit of tackle for a weighted board! Incidentally does anyone know exactly when the 14's abandoned the 60lb weighted board...

Re: Int 14 - mystery winch

Thanks for that - a mast jack is an interesting thought; i sailed an old uffa fox one years ago which had a mast jack but that was operated unsurprisingly from the bottom of the mast! Maelstrom is a 1957 Fairey and i take your point about the winch looking a bit young

Int 14 - mystery winch

I have recently bought a classic 14 (K680), something I lusted after when I was in short trousers! She (Maelstrom) has been stored for the past 20 years but prior to that went through a period as a yacht tender (with outboard attached - aghh!) during which many of the fittings were removed. Most are...
