Re: magnum 6 info

Hi Stu, Yes your boat is definitely a Magnum 6 built by John Claridge in 1986 or 1987 and registered in 1987 which is why it has quite a high number for a Magnum 6. 3908 was Clive Everest's Magnum 8 and 3911 was Melvyn Cooper's Magnum 8 so yours was probably one of the last 6's built. I don't know w...

Re: International Moths at Whitefriars

Hello again fellow Mothists, It seems to me that for a variety of reasons there doesn't seem to be a great deal of interest amongst the Classic Moth owners in attending the proposed joint open event with the British Moths at Whitefriars this coming weekend. I was planning to go, but if I am likely t...

Re: PY for this moth?

I think that Rupert's suggested Handicap is about right. I sailed the Shelley off 102 at the Nationals last year which seemed ok and your boat is fairly similar looking. The extra 2 points allowance for the wooden mast is probably fair and I would have suggested a figure between 102 and 104 anyway w...

Re: kestrel mast

Fireball mast is pretty close with an overall length only 25 mm shorter. There is a Superspar on Apollo duck for £85 if that's within budget. I have an old Proctor that came off a Fireball, but it is pretty bare so everything would need to be transferred across from your broken one. Rigging and spre...

Re: Int Moth on Apollo Duck

Gary, Have a look at the rather nice collage of Magnum photos that Paul M has posted on the Boat ID section. Although not all the photos were taken from the same relative angle they do help to show some of the differences between the designs. e.g. transom widths getting narrower, rudder gantries app...

Re: 1939 International 14...Free to a good home!

I happen to know where there is another ribbed 14 that is in much better condition than this having been dry stored for a number of years. It is fairly complete apart from the mast and sails which are missing. This one may also be going very cheap, if not free to a good home, so if anyone is interes...

Re: 'nother old moff

Nessa, I have been assuming until now that either yourself or Sami would be putting bids in for this so have been holding back even though I am extremely tempted to go for it myself. If it turns out that neither of you are planning to bid or are happy to let another "CVRDA Mothie" try to g...

Re: 'nother old moff

This is clearly a very interesting looking boat and professionally built as well. I hadn't heard of a Dobsons built Moth prior to this one turning up so it would be nice to find out more about it's history. I agree with Alan that it looks very much like a double chine version of a Europa especially ...

Re: prototype ???

Hi Again, From what I have managed to piece together this hull was aquired by Severn sailboats as a potential prototype for a new high performance singlehander. As Max has already pointed out it was trialled using a Contender rig so my guess is that its performance would have been somewhere between ...

Re: IT is here SKOL MK III FOR SALE!!!

Well done Sami and bad luck Jim. I am pleased that it has gone to a good home within the group of regular contributors to the various Moth topics on the forum. I look forward to seeing pictures of it on the water and hopefully in the flesh at WFSC or Bough Beech. By the way a Europe sail with a slig...

Re: Harrier and skol mk 2

Hi Angus, I may know someone who would be interested in the Skol depending how far away it is from Oxford. John H at my home club used to have one many years ago and quite fancies a play in one again. What sort of price are we looking at as that could affect the decision as to whether it is worth hi...

Re: Moth Wombat 84

Hi Tom, Aluminium is probably best to start with anyway just in case you bend it over the wing bars during a capsize. They can usually be straightened a few times before they break and even a bent ally stick is better than a jagged carbon stump for getting you back to the beach! Once you are happier...

Re: new loving homes needed.....

Hi Nessa, If you can give me some idea of just how much work is needed on the Europe as that will help me decide if it is within my capabilities to get her back on the water. I have got somewhere I can store it until I can complete my other projects and make a start on the restoration work. I am bas...

Re: Moth Wombat 84

Hi Tom, I have two tiller extensions for my Magnum 6, which is fairly similar to the Wombat, and they are both quite a bit longer than 1200mm. The aluminium one is 1550 mm and the carbon one is 1610mm. 1200 might be ok for the first couple of outings during which you may not get right out on the end...

Re: novice seller International moth mk III

Jim, You were going to look at it in August last year so what happened? Let us know if you decide to have it or not as we are trying to keep track of any Classic Moths that are still around with a view to encouraging owners to bring them along to CVRDA events. If we only ever get one or two turning ...
