Re: Moth Wombat 84
Hmmm...might turn into a bit of a love-hate affair after the first few outings! Tom, Great job on the boat so far though and pleased to hear that you got the wing mounting sorted. Please keep posting the pictures of any further progress as it will be very interesting to see it all rigged up. Cheers ...

Re: novice seller International moth mk III
Go for it Sami! It definitely needs to go to someone in the CVRDA who might bring it along to Whitefriars or Bough Beech. If the Europa won't be ready in time then just maybe this could be the answer. I had wondered where this boat had gone after the thread went quiet last year. Good that it has rea...

Re: new loving homes needed.....
Hi Nessa, I am extremely sorry to hear about your latest setback, it must be terribly frustrating for you. I was hoping to get to sail against you at one of the events this year, but unfortunately that seems rather less likely now. At least I might hope to meet up with you at one of them so we can h...

Re: Moth Wombat 84
Hi Tom, From your description and from what I can make out in the picture it looks like you have a similar arrangement to the Musto Skiff. If you look at this you will see what I mean :- http://www.ovingtonboats.com/products/601 Clearly the angles will be different on your boat, but the principle ma...

Re: Moth Wombat 84
Hi Tom, Well perhaps not unsurprisingly given the nature of Moths it varies from design to design and boat to boat depending on who put it all together in the first place. On the earlier Magnums the wing tubes slotted onto tangs that were part of the rudder mounting, however on later boats with rudd...

Re: low rider - what model?
Hi Nessa and fellow Mothists, I'd like to come to Hunts for the Jun gig, however, it may depend on how quickly I recover from yesterday's knee operation. Hopefully I should be back to full working order by then, but knowing what it can be like on the knees downwind the Magnum might be pushing it a b...

Re: low rider - what model?
Hi Tom, Congratulations on buying your first Moth! It looks to me as though it is probably a Wombat 84 which was Andrew Macdougall's second skiff design and moved closer to the Magnum 6 in that it had a narrower transom, square backed wings and a rudder gantry. These were all features that helped re...

Re: what was it?
You were on the right track, but one look at that bow should tell you that it is actually a 420! Also the transom is too rounded to be a 470.
Cheers
Ian M
P.S. Are you both up for some Moth action together with the BM's at whitefriars in the summer? Magnums, Skols, Shelleys and Scows all welcome!
Cheers

Re: wot's this then?
Hi, Definitely a Bosun Although sometimes referrerred to as the "Boatswine" due to it's handling characteristics in heavy weather downwind. On later boats this was less of a problem as the rudder was modified to have a vertical leading edge. As for it's suitability for cruising single hand...

Re: first wotizit of 2012
Hi All, I too thought that it looked a bit like a Mark with the open transom and the maximum beam fairly far forward, however the rig is too far aft and looks stayed which rules that out. It is also slightly too short to be a Mark if the 11' mentioned in the description is accurate as the Mark was 1...

Re: Xmas Advent Calendar- Guess the Boat
Hello and Merry Christmas everyone, I think that Max is on the right track when it comes to the class of boat, but I don't believe that he has plumped for the right one. Marcus picked up on some vital clues a while back and having done a bit of research myself I am now convinced that he was right. I...

Looks a bit like a Tepco 12 if my memory serves me correctly? I'm not sure that it is a Tepco, but there are similarities although it's been a very long time since I last saw one.

Re: wood for a traveller bar
Hi Nessa, I also own a Europe and have been following this thread with interest. I can see that you have already received loads of (mostly helpful) advice regarding the fitment of a traveller bar to your Europe hull, but I just thought it worth adding a couple of points. Assuming, of course, that it...

Re: Fixtures 2012
Hi Rupert, Does either of us need to contact the British Moth Assoc to make sure that they have no objections to the Classic Moths joining their Anniversary bash? You may have done this already of course in which case I'll concentrate on trying to publicise it as a Classic Moth event once it is pass...
