Re: Mast carrying on vans

At the back of the car an overhang of anything between 0 and 1 metre supposes no special marking and between 1 and 3 Metres overhang a red marking (preferably a red reflector tria...

Re: Atlanta Vario

I only got these by hearsay, from Marcel Buffet and a few other old hands (and the 505 chapter in Patrick antoine's book) after al i'm only 60 . Some things are quite obscured in time now, but it is a pity you cant access to the early french 505 class records (they were kept by Alain Cettier)...wond...

Re: Atlanta Vario

It is obviously one of the very first 505's, but the number is K15...Logically it should have been numbered as K1 or K2 as it is allegedly the very first 505 built in Great britain. How where the sail numbers allotted by the class. In France the oldes known 505 still in sailing conditon is the woode...

Re: Atlanta Vario

Seems stange but many performance dinghies of 50's and 60's design could be DIY owner built while the cheap vaurien was a professional builder only job (until recently). I even saw some tornado ex olympic cat built in the workshop of Ecole Nationale de Voile in Quiberon. The now extinct sailing sect...

Well , the laser "not a proper dinghy"...it is arguable...though i think it is wrong Some boats were considered as Planches à voile (boards with sails) in France long before Hoyle Schweitzer and Jim Drake ever invented and patented the windsurf (and baron Bich fought and won the litigation...

Re: Laser 1 possibly very early #39

Hello and happy new year My first laser (bought second hand) was 17802 and the making year was 1974 centrebord was fiberglass with foam core (they reverted to wood for some time before using the hard foam on stainless steel rods because those early fiberglass/foam core foils tended to break. Grab ra...

Re: finn- or something else

The Flying Junior was mostly produced in Italy by ALPA and in the US by Harken/vanguard, there are not many of them in germany.
On the other hand Pirats and Korsars were active classes there for junior championships and back inthe 80's had a specific racing course at the KielerWoche.

Re: finn- or something else

most probably a FD but if the measure at 16 Ft is correct could also be a Korsar (privateer - corsair) . famous mader boatyard made quite a nuber of them along with the top range FD and the tamer hard chine Kielzugvogel or Pirats

Re: Ponant Dinghy?

Ponant is a (rather heavy) performance dinghy (more or less a french osprey) with an interesting history. It was started at St Raphael (french riviera)in the late 50's and used the same sailplan as the 505 so that ex racing 505 sets of sails (rich 505 racers changed sails on a 3 months basis) could ...

Re: Info on Sailfish 12 please

If it is the US sailfish, it is the ancestor of the much more frequent sunfish . Original sailfish had the same kind of latten rig , no cockpit at all and a plywood hull..derived from a..surfboard. To be precise the guys behind the Sailfish and sunfish (Alex Bryant and Cortland Heyniger, hence the b...

Re: I've seen this before somewhere....

Obviously a sea hopper (by Yamaha) one of the many laser clones and possibly the best one . The orange colour and the cockpit compartment for an anchor (a smallish cargo-ship style stockless model, builder suplied ) is unmistakable. Low (enven lower than the laser and hence quite wet , it was a good...
