Well... I quite agree with the idea that some non trapeze boats make very trapezable boats when trapeze is fitted. As a laser sailor when i use a Laser 4000 (in training and school courses ) I tend to react laserlike e;g send the (generally inexperienced) crew out on the wire and do the fine tuning ...

It is a most interesting discusion, but still I'm not so sure Trapezing needed a specially designed boat , some classes could be fitted with it some not, and when fitted, it somewhat changed the class uses and sailor ranking. The Osprey was a 3 in Dinghy and the adoption of trapezing led to turn it ...

Trapeze has been invented much earlier than most people think. Begian-french adventurer and writer Henri de Monfreid smuggled guns , pearls , slaves and Haschich on dhow style arabian boats in the red sea just after WW1 (1920's on) and was somthing of a french and nautical version of Lawrence of Ara...

for comparison, it would be interesting to scan and publish the photos of osprey N° 1... I also noticed that the mystery boat has a kind of rubbing strake / keelson on the aft part of the inermost chine (it appears in bright blue as its vertical edge is not covered with dust) and some photos on the...

Thank you ... I suggested him to buy a rig from a french Jet (equivalent of 470 bit more canvas, as it uses a 505mast but keel stepped with slightly shorter boom) or a french ponant (more or less similar to wayfarer , bur using a 505 sail plan with a less sophisticated mast... but if he can buy a ge...

There is apparently a mast support (with a cleat and maybe a centreboard control block) underneath the mast step.. as the boat was used for cruising - it did make the cross channel trip to Dunkirk long ago- Iwonder if the ex owner may have modified this area. For a cruising dinghy it is of paramount...

Hello...Im the one responsible for the trouble as i had Jean Tves question on a french dinghy forum and directed him to the osprey association. Mostly a laser (now a radial) sailor i had some knowledge of the deliciously old fashioned british dinghies as i raced a bit back in 1973 when i was a colle...
