Re: on the want for a couple of covers.
Treat yourself to a new one from "Rain and Sun" I hve had one now for 6 years and it's still in great condition. I have NikWaxed it once. You will find that second hand ones never fit as well as you would like and you will end up having to do a load of jobs due to water gettingin/sweating ...

Re: Shin kicking
Not intending to write off the youth of today at all but I am sure over all that there was a discipline in society which seems to be lacking. People are healthier and yes relatively well off nowadays yet we witnessed rioting where the law was ignored. I think it is summed up by a lack of respect for...

Re: What's your wheels?
I have to admit to a 1931 Austin Seven box saloon complete with wicker hamper on the back (you need that to carry all the spares and tools needed!!) I also have two (always best to have two of everything) Howard Bantam rotovators for doing the allotment. They are 1950's vintage with a Villiers four ...

Re: Shin kicking
My Dad was torpedoed by the Luftwaffe on the Arctic convoy in 1942. His ship was the SS Lowther Castle - all documented somewhere so Mum is able to put in for the Arctic Star. His most vivid memory of the torpedoing was the disappointment not to have taken the ship's chronometer before she sank. In ...

Re: Drysuit repair
£6.95 as I said in my post but there are 3 sizes - a small , a medium and a larger one. There are a couple of alcohol wipes too to clean the rubber before applying. I bought it on the off chance but am pretty pleased the way it went on.

Drysuit repair
At the end of last season I noticed a large tear in the rubber sock/feet of my drysuit and in the way of things did nothing about it. It was one of those tears which formed two sides of a triangle. With the onset of the rising sap for 2013 I thought I had better do something about it and decided ini...

Re: What is the worlds favourite sailing dinghy?
This may be a little controversial I suppose BUT what is the definition of "favourite" dinghy. Can you really fall in love with a Laser? To me they seem soulless but I can see the attraction. Single hander. Loads of them. Easy spares. Relatively cheap second hand. Maintenance-free. How man...

Roger, I think you may have done yourself out of points - did you not sail Secret Water at Shearwater lst year. Kay was with the guy in the Merlin......
Re: Insurance
The insurance on my two old Merlins was halved when I talked to Bishop Skinner (now Bluefin). The premiums had gone through the roof when the modern (and in some cases not so modern) carbonised Merlins started to claim against their very breakable carbon masts. I explained that I had no carbon, neve...

Re: Cutting perspex.
A good tip for cutting perspex is to stick masking tape on both sides of the sheet covering the cut line. Also MARK THE TAPE not the plastic with the cut line. This saves shattering and also it's easier to see the cut line. Also use a band saw with a hacksaw type of blade ie fine.
