Re: Simoun

just to get an idea check links below : 445 is more common than 485 (that competed with 470 Lanaverre Jet, Ponant, 505's and a few others) but it is basically the same building standard....and mast and fittings were the cheap stuff of Ermat entry range, plus the aly masts by STRUCTURAL (the propriet...

Re: Simoun

Simouns 445 and 485 ...Beware ! though the hull form is quite good the build quality is not: Gouteron used lots of wood stringers between the hull and double bottom and they are generally rottend and disintegrated if the boat has stood outside with rainwater in the hull. The damage can be asssessed ...

For the 1958 Veloce (already a Fiberglass-GRP molding; albeit not very well mastered: the first boat was 145 Kgs and the second one weighed 220 Kgs)

Re: And now a Shearwater in France.

Shearwater were imported in France at some point but they were not , by far, the only cats sailing in France Pierre Le Marrec had created a catamaran called Veloce (aptly named, it could out run a 505) and had it tested in various clubs including YCIF and CVP on the river Seine, not the best place t...

Re: More lost classes??

I dont think L'Equipe was ever a contender for the 29 er it was meant for lighter and youger kids (just compare sail area) ...and the 29er , contrary to the tamer 420 is very difficult to recycle into a sailing school / club boat: recreative owner boat : local racer boat, once it has enjoyed two or ...

Re: More lost classes??

L'équipe is not a bad boat, only itwas meant for kids. A lot of boats were meant for kids in the heyday of dinghy sailing . The best one was also a mini FD (without spi chute) by Lanaverre called the KID (most of them were done "safey yellow" both on deck and hull tobe easily spotted in ca...

Re: Finn Wooden Mast Rigging

In my old club, back in 1970 a very old finn had turned up , it was N°8 said to have come from the batch built in Finland for the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. It was built traditional canoe style with thin steam curved ribs , rather heavy mahogany planking, copper rivets and a ply deck. It was very crude...

Re: Finn Wooden Mast Rigging

Hello, I once owned one of the oldest 0K in France (F3),1958 vintage, gave it to the bordeaux dinghy museum when i changed club . They seem to have lost it (with its gorgeous chromed builders plaque)when the museum (in Bordeaux U boat base ) went bankrupt (it was by Jouet Sartrouville a very sucessf...

End of ad says thet there is a full documentation including original documents, invoices...etc and that the owner would gladly swap it for some smaller classic boat like an Nat'l12 or vintage car/motorcycle

Re: A Wotzit Fairey Marine 15 Ft converted into a fine oddity

As i'm no collector just curious i wonn't be buying this boat. The hotchkiss jet thing is apparently a kind of conical turbine fitted to a standard engine (found a reference about it on the web in a book about RNLI Lifeboats, it said this system was used for rescue boats operating from beaches just ...

A Wotzit Fairey Marine 15 Ft converted into a fine oddity

Found this on Le Bon Coin. https://www.leboncoin.fr/nautisme/1639600315.htm/ Seems to sail in île de Ré and Bassin d'Arcachon (known for the posh sort of dinghy sailing) . Really nice and well kept boat Ad says it comes with a Coventry Victor engine (OK, a very old Flat Twin sort of outboard) with a...

Hello... Lots of Good bad and ugly Europes to be found in France from the very desirable gleaming varnished wooden rolland to the ex women olympic boats with carbon masts and cheap run of the mill Lanaverre from the 60's There is a second hand dinghy dealer in Picardy who has some good , some bad an...

Re: French Moth

It is a Moth "Atlantique" and it was made by Lanaverre of Bordeaux (the 420, Finns, 490, Jet) before they took up milling the Europe moth in big quantities The sail was made in dacron (or rather french "tergal" but coton style (narrow multiple panels)and the sail logo was a red c...
