Re: Boat weighing.............

I agree with Ed, we used to weigh articulated lorries by 'split' weighing them, cab axels then trailer axels, as the weigh bridge wasn't long enough. Had one lorry that objected to 'split' weighing so took him to a full plate weigh bridge and the weight was 20 kgs lighter on the full plate which cou...

Re: Moth merry-go-round

I had her insured through Noble Marine, having checked she is still insured in my name through them until 13th April 2015 which cost me £42.40 for the year. That was for third party risks only but does cover racing up to £5 million. I did not have cover for damage or theft as that would have cost mo...

What is this?

Looks from the pictures to be restorable but what was it?

I emailed the seller through ebay and he replied that the boat measures 157 inches long (13'1") by 62 inches wide (5'2").

Testing a wooden mast

I have a fifty year old Solo wooden mast which has been hanging in various dry garages unused for thirty to forty years but looks to be sound. Before I spend any time and effort rigging it is there a reasonable way of testing it to see if it is strong enough to use albeit only gentle use anyway?

Re: Thingummyjig

When I was a teenager and these boats were new, the jib sheets went down to a shelf below deck level but above the c/board brace and I used to perch on that, sitting facing across the boat. It didn't foul the jib sheet as if I was on the windward side it would be slack or to leeward in light airs I ...

Re: I have had my years worth - how do I subscribe?

I got passed CAPTCHA but it now tells me my username or password are wrong? Whilst typing, it emailed me the details of where to send my cheque, so my cheque will be in the post tomorrow, seems strange to be sending so much money to Nigeria but the computer can't be wrong can it? Only joking...

Re: I have had my years worth - how do I subscribe?

CAPTCHA still will not let me in can someone pm me an address and I will dust off the cheque book and send one of those. I don't need to rejoin as I've been here for a couple of years and my details should be available.
Thanks.

Re: I have had my years worth - how do I subscribe?

I tried numerous times but I can't get passed the CAPTCHA code, even when it was only four numbers it still told me I was wrong!

I have had my years worth - how do I subscribe?

I am sure that it was over a year since I last gave anything to keep this site going and remaining ad free. Who would like my contribution and how?

Thanks, Phil

Re: Hiding screw holes

I am playing with this idea of making a cutter, 4mm seems to work ok on hardwood. I am trying to improve my cutter before I try it on the light coloured wood as I have only got a small piece that I think will be the correct colour when epoxied and varnished. I am also going to try to get the plug si...

Re: Holt HA4077 cleats

I have one working 4077 and two without springs, I also have two similar of the same era (not matching) with fairleads, one I think matches the picture Rupert posted. Message me an address and I'll post them to you for free, I'm having a pre house move clear out otherwise they are bound for landfill.

Hiding screw holes

I have a beautiful light coloured wooden thwart on my new to me Solo but sadly it has a number of fittings screwed to it that are either redundant or in the wrong place. I would like to remove them and hide the fact that they were there in the best way possible. The fittings are surface mounted usin...
