Re: rudder pintles

I may well do that - it would be extremely relevant since the boat in question is actually a rondar built contender - sorry to sneak in a non cvrda question, but I like the level of expertise in here!

rudder pintles

What is the best way of checking these are in alignment, and if they are out of alignment, altering them so that they are?

Thanks

Lifting veneer

In amongst our fleet is an oldish wooden streaker. It is a nice boat but has suffered from a poorly fitting top cover which means that some of the varnish is lifting away around the shroud plates and taking the veneer with it. Clearly I need to deal with this, but what is the best way without damagi...

Re: More Dutchman doodlings

What I find interesting is to find old sailing books in charity shops or second hand shops. They have some great stuff - I've just got one called 'Dinghy Sails' and it talks about the introduction of the cunningham as a control and how to use it! There are some fabulous photos too. I fear a collecti...

I am with you on all of this Phil - the forum has been fantastic in offering excellent advice and a friendly welcome. I hope they keep up the warm attitude though - I know I have many more stupid/how do I questions to come!

Re: councilling needed

I raced a pico quite recently in big winds and did very well - but I did find I kept sliding longways down the side tank and into the water. As for the kids, surely the classic option has to be a cadet?

Re: Agamemnon - i14 869

I knew that would be the answer re the patching. :( I will do it properly then, but as we are moving house at the moment it may well take quite some time. I did think about replacing the entire bulkhead for exactly the reason you describe. One thing I think I need to know is, what are the protocols ...

Re: A request for advice - a Finn - ish singlehander?

On the question of value, I'd have to agree - I can never expect to get back the equivalent worth of the hours of toil that went into the restoration of my phantom. I can only expect to get what people feel they should pay for such an 'old' boat. As to it's soundness, well, so far as I know it is th...

Re: Agamemnon - i14 869

That sounds like just the job ACB, but it is well beyond my woodworking capability. How much - roughly - would something like that cost to get professionally done, and where would the panel recommend I go for it? With regard to the epoxy, need I take off all of it, or can I leave the good bits and p...

That cat, aka Fidget the fiend, is a specialist in walking in fresh paint/varnish/gelcoat and has a particular talent for investigating open hatches and disappearing underneath as you put the boat cover on.

Oh and she loves stray ends of shockcord.

Re: A request for advice - a Finn - ish singlehander?

My phantom is of the ye olde type - it is K88. It is in pretty good nick really but the mast and boom let it down.

There are photos here:

and I am hoping to take more tomorrow.

It is in Bedford.
