Varnish
I have just completed the decks of my National 18 with the own brand screwfix yacht varnish and am very pleased with the result. I was getting just over two coats per tin so it is very economical. I tried the own brand varnish remover too which had good reviews but did not work as well as nitromors....

National 18
I am enjoying sailing my National 18 and have decided I would like a newer one so am selling 287 - Whisp. Newer but still CVRDA eligible. It is a very well made 1970 version, GRP hull with wooden deck, aluminum centreplate, metal rig, two sets of sails, milanes rudder & stock, double speed mains...

Re: Birkett Memorial Trophy
I have not done the event though would like to. Having sailed a classic 14 with Chris at Hunts this year I would say the scenario you describe is not ideal. As has been suggested I would go for a more modern and perhaps comfortable design the first time.

Rupert, you said
"The National 18 handicap must surely be based on the results from the current crop of boats"
and I just wanted to confirm that is not the case. The PY is based on the new design. I imagine there is a method for doing this in the same way that new design gets a PY.

Re: Merlin PYs...
Tricky. My own experience with the Jollyboat was fairly easy as there was no existing PY to use. I have found it more difficult with the National 18 as the class has just launched a new version which is lighter and quicker than the old by some margin and the new PY is 930 something. As a result the ...

Re: Fairy Albacore for sale
I have not sailed an Osprey so cannot compare and contrast. However, I would have said that all the qualities you attribute to the Osprey I would say apply to the Jollyboat. I like the lines of the Osprey and the FD too but in my opinion the Jollyboat that Andrew is selling is a lot more boat for yo...

Re: Fairy Albacore for sale
The Jollyboat that Andrew is selling is excellent and you will get an awful lot more for your money than with an Osprey or FD.

I have sent the pdf to the local Sea Scouts that sail at BBSC. I hope they like the idea as it would be great to see them at my club.

Thanks Nessa and Nicky for a great weekend. I especially enjoyed the fried egg roll for Sunday breakfast!
A little less wind and rain next time please.
