Shakewell Afloat

Post by Nessa »

Thanks to all those who mentioned this lovely book. My clever and perceptive other half read these threads and has bought it for my birthday, which is today!

It is a fabulous book - I love the illustrations and have already spotted various mentions of Jonny Woodbine - the owner of the monster lurking in my garage!

Nessa enjoy the book, the other Shackleton books especially Wake & Tidelines are equally good if less yachty!
If you want it I have a list of the Shakewell names and places though if you have a basic knowledge of linnean nomencleture and geography most are not too hard to place!
Oh yes Happy Birthday.

Happy birthday to you too Pat!

So does this mean that the Andreionopolos in the book is my Agamemnon? if so, the cheroot burn mark is still there - and clearly I should preserve it!

Yes indeed she is! and yes that would be the famous burn. You have a bit of history there!
A photograph would be good.
There is a need for a few more Shakewells today.
I have a work in progress "Short Stories from a Tall Yachtsman" but real sailing keeps getting in the way!
I was lucky enough to go to the same School as Keith Shackleton attended albeit many year later and in our turns the same School as Peter Scott and the school is littered with both their paintings as youths. On an off topic subject; Phillipa Scott (Peters Widow.) together with Keith Shackleton and Peters Daughter Daffila have just published another amazing book of Peters paintings, sketches (A few of Int 14's.) work papers doodled on etc a very good introduction from Keith too, he does write very well.
I recomend it you can get it from any WWT centre or from Slimbridge.
