New Home Page

Post by MartinH »

Have just logged on and was pleasantly suprised by the new home page. Is this a permanent change or just for the remainder of the 10th anniversay year? The changing background to the title pane is a nice touch - though I will have to keep refreshing to see how many there are - or is it taking random samples from the gallery?

Quite a shock, it's jolly good gold stars to whoever did it. Site seems a bit faster too!

Pat put the new page to the committee a couple of weeks ago and it met with resounding approval.

Thanks Pat

The only think I'll miss is the funny cvrda changing graphic at the top...
Much easier to read now, thanks Pat! Looks good.

Thanks folks. We gave up on Helford and came home early because of the weather so I finally implemented what I'd had in my head for ages!
There's still a few broken links and mis-aligned pages but it's a first step to more and easier to maintain.
The dinghydatabase is also on there - under classes on the menu.

Clicking the flag on the forum header now takes you to the main site.

I think it's great too - one little niggle. You have to look for the link buried away to return to the whole forum which used to remain prominent at the top of the page. Now it's just a little link called board index. But well done to all

I suppose more to the point you have to go back to the home page from the forum before you can navigate elsewhere. Only one extra click, though!

The details of the Blaze dinghy on the database are incorrect. The website should be http://www.blaze-sailing.org.uk/, and we do not do weight equalisation now...

The picture is a little out of date as it show's the Mk1 Blaze - Not the boat that is currently being sailed (I may be able to send you pictures of a modern Blaze - PM Me).

However, the site looks more modern and is a great improvement - well done..

I think it's fab. I do miss the little boat gadding back and forth, but the changing pictures make up for it. Well done Pat, excellent work.

Neil's idea of converting it to a Wiki (whatever that really is...) is seeming like a good one. I suspect most classes will be able to make corrections and updates. Or an entry in the first place. A great online source that can be a whole lot more.

There's facilities for amending the dinghy database (and making it a database!) being developed - it's all very text and Front Page HTML at present so difficult to put into a wiki with any consistency.

Once I've done that, the updates can be done.

As for the little animated dinghy, it's still around, you've just got to find it!

I had always fondly imagined it was an IC. Perhaps it can be the next mystery dinghy quiz question

Funny, I've always thought of it as a Firefly but I don't know why.
